Academic duties:

Faculty are expected to teach in the predoctoral and postdoctoral programs, and must also be competent to practice in their field and provide direct patient care daily as part of teaching. Temple’s Dental model of education is based on an apprenticeship model where faculty are engaged as clinicians and educators, in provision of care with the students or residents.

Clinical practice for one day per week will be offered at the dental school or the new 12-chair fully equipped faculty practice located 3 miles south of the dental school in a new residential area of Philadelphia.

Requirements:

All faculty must have a DMD/DDS from a CODA accredited school, a foreign equivalent may be considered, and must have or be able to obtain a license to practice dentistry in Pennsylvania in addition to the below requirements. Applicants with experience in accreditation will be preferred.

Applicants must have an advanced prosthodontic certificate from a CODA accredited specialty program and be board certified or eligible with the American Academy of Prosthodontics, and must have experience in didactic teaching, clinical teaching, course directorship, and expertise in prosthodontics.

Preference will be for applicants who have taught predoctoral and postdoctoral courses in prosthodontics and comprehensive dentistry and have developed advanced skills in digital dentistry, a field which has been highly advanced at the dental school.

Preference will be for applicants with highly advanced skills in digital dentistry.

Academic culture:

Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry has a horizontal open organizational structure where chairs, deans, and the Dean are accessible to faculty, staff, and students at any time to hear their input and address their aspirations. Additionally, the school offers several educational mini certificates offered by the Center for Academic Teaching.

Salary and compensation:

Salaries are competitive with dental academic salaries in the Northeast. Faculty members have 20 days of paid vacation, and 3 days of personal time per year, a generous 403B contribution, Family Medical Leave, and Long-term disability benefits. Medical and dental insurance are offered at discounted premiums compared with market cost. Faculty members who practice receive at least one third of the net revenues. Support for attending at least one national professional meeting per year and faculty will be supported for presenting at additional meetings.
