About the Job

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Minnesota Medical School seeks a full‑time ABP board certified/eligible clinical pathologist with expertise in transfusion medicine/blood banking. The position is faculty and P&A Staff with a 100% appointment. Candidates are expected to demonstrate teaching and scholarly productivity, and compensation and appointment rank will be based on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the lead faculty in the Blood Bank laboratory.
• Act as an attending on the blood bank and apheresis service.
• Sign‑out clinical services, provide call coverage, and supervise residents and fellows.
• Contribute to and participate in conferences and other departmental activities.
• Engage in academic activities, pursuing scholarly work and research in the specialty area.
• Take on leadership opportunities in education and outreach within the division.

Qualifications

• MD or equivalent degree (D.O., MBBS, etc.).
• Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Minnesota.
• Completion of an ACGME‑accredited pathology residency training program and a transfusion medicine/blood banking fellowship program.
• Board certification or eligibility in CP or AP/CP, and in blood bank/transfusion medicine.
• Demonstrated teaching ability and scholarly productivity.
• Active involvement in national professional organizations is preferred.

Pay and Benefits

Salary at the University of Minnesota commences at $55,000 and is adjusted based on academic effort. Clinical salary is provided through University of Minnesota Physicians, aligning with clinical effort. Total compensation is competitive with market and based on AAMC salary benchmarks. This role is dually employed by the University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Physicians.
