Job description

The Human Biology Division of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center seeks a visionary scientific leader to accelerate discoveries in precision oncology including developing and implementing personalized prevention, early detection and treatment strategies for cancer.

This Bezos Family Distinguished Scholar position will include leadership opportunities within the Division that either complement the Division's strengths or extend it into new scientific directions, depending on the candidate's interests and qualifications. This position will include generous startup funds, an endowed chair, funding for internal and external collaborations, and support for additional faculty recruitment.

This search is directed toward accomplished candidates qualified at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Primary appointment will be in the Human Biology Division at Fred Hutch. An adjunct appointment may be considered, if appropriate, with other Divisions at Fred Hutch and at a department at the University of Washington.

Fred Hutch is an independent, nonprofit organization providing cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington state.

With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world’s leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy, and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures for the world’s deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.

Faculty are expected to perform their primary activities on-site at Fred Hutch.

At Fred Hutch we value collaboration, compassion, determination, excellence, innovation, integrity and respect. Our mission is directly tied to the humanity, dignity and inherent value of each employee, patient, community member and supporter. Our commitment to learning across our differences and similarities makes us stronger. We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD, MD or MD/PhD (or foreign equivalent). They must have experience leading an independent research program as well as expertise and interest in scientific areas relevant to precision oncology and the mission of the Human Biology Division and Fred Hutch. The candidate should have a demonstrated track record in obtaining funding and leading an innovative research group.

The annual base salary range for PhD researchers in this position is from $210,413 to $300,000 for faculty hired at the Associate Professor rank and from $239,714 to $450,000 for faculty hired at the Professor rank.

The annual base salary range for MD physician-scientists with an active practice is highly correlated with the area of specialty and ranges from $253,596 to $560,043 for faculty hired at the Associate Professor rank and from $276,808 to $656,515 for faculty hired at the Professor rank.

Pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. Pay for Faculty positions is based on a variety of factors, including degree, specialty, clinical practice and experience. Faculty without credited time in rank will generally start at the entry rate for their relevant specialty and rank. This position is eligible for relocation assistance and sign-on bonus. Other compensation associated with this position may include an Administrative Supplement (ADS) in addition to base pay.

Fred Hutch Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security. Benefits include medical/vision, dental, flexible spending accounts, life, disability, retirement, family life support, employee assistance program, onsite health clinic, tuition reimbursement, paid vacation (22 days per year), paid sick leave (up to 30 calendar days per occurrence of a qualifying reason), paid holidays (up to 13 days per year), paid parental leave (up to 4 weeks), and partially paid sabbatical leave (up to 12 months).
