Summary

The English Program, housed within the Division of Arts & Humanities in the College of Liberal Arts & Education at Saint Xavier University, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track open rank professor position in English. The English program supports the General Education writing requirement, Middle Level and Secondary Education English Language Arts majors, and various minors. The area of expertise is open but we are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the General Education writing program, and/or who have additional expertise in writing, rhetoric, Latinx literature, women's literature, contemporary literature, or global literature.

Start date is in the Fall of 2025. Rank depends on credentials and years of experience; salary commensurate with experience.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach 12 credit hours each semester in courses related to one's area of expertise
  • Establish a program of research leading to peer-reviewed publications and presentations
  • Provide service to the program, college, and university

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in English or Composition/Rhetoric. (ABD applicants will be considered, contingent on evidence of a successful doctoral defense prior to August 1, 2025)
  • Evidence of or potential for excellent teaching, including use of evidence-based best practices in teaching and learning
  • Demonstrated research potential
  • Enthusiasm toward serving a diverse student population
  • Support for the Saint Xavier University Mission (https://www.sxu.edu/about/mission.asp)
  • Permission to work in the United States
