Job description

McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, Department of Neurology is seeking an experienced neurologist clinician or clinician scientist at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor/Professor, either tenure or non-tenure track (depending on qualifications), in the clinical division of Epilepsy, Texas Comprehensive Epilepsy Program (TCEP). The division offers outpatient clinics, inpatient services, active clinical, translational, and basic research, and educates medical and graduate students, neurology residents, and fellows.

The successful candidate will participate in inpatient/outpatient clinical care, research, and educational programs in Epilepsy within the Department of Neurology. The Texas Comprehensive Epilepsy Program is the largest tertiary referral epilepsy center in the Southwest United States and has one of the busiest epilepsy surgery programs in the country. The program includes active SEEG and MEG projects with surgical options such as resections, DBS, RNS, and laser ablation. The division hosts several NIH-funded research programs covering electromagnetic source imaging, epilepsy mortality, treatment outcomes, neuromodulation, epilepsy genetics and rare epilepsies, fMRI, artificial intelligence in epilepsy, and wearable m-health technologies. The center collaborates closely with Neurosurgery, McWilliams School of Biomedical and Informatics, and the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health. The fellowship program offers 8 positions in epilepsy, 3-4 in clinical neurophysiology, and one in MEG/SEEG.

Position Key Accountabilities:

Clinical responsibilities will vary based on the candidate’s career focus as a clinician or clinician scientist with funded effort. Responsibilities include up to four days of clinical practice per week and up to 12 weeks of inpatient EMU service. Teaching opportunities include the bi-annual 8-week epilepsy/EEG course. The position is affiliated with the McGovern Medical School, the sixth largest medical school in the nation, and is part of a robust Neurology residency and growing Epilepsy Fellowship program.

  • Active Board certifications.
  • Licensed or eligible to be licensed in Texas.
