FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of History at Hunter College, CUNY invites applications for an Open Rank (full-time, tenure-track/tenured) position in Global Medieval History, 500-1500. The department is especially interested in applications from scholars whose research and teaching deal with medieval history in Western, Eastern, Central, or Northern Europe; the Mediterranean world (Southern Europe, North Africa, Eastern Mediterranean); and/or Central Asia. The anticipated start date is on or about September 1, 2026. Candidates must demonstrate excellence or strong promise of excellence in both research and teaching. The position includes the opportunity, subject to need, to teach in the History Department’s Master’s program.

QUALIFICATIONS

For Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor:

A PhD in history is required at the time of appointment. We seek applicants who have the ability to cooperate with faculty, students, and staff of all backgrounds for the good of the institution, and who are committed to encouraging and supporting our highly diverse student body.

COMPENSATION

Compensation is commensurate with experience within the current range of the relevant title: Asst. $67,072 – $99,532; Assoc. $100,329 - $117,805; & Prof. $119,995 - $141,858 (with the new 2026 contract range expected to be: Assistant Professor, $76,041 - $112,841; Associate Professor, $113,745 – $133,558; Professor, $136,040 – $160,827).

CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09% with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
