FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Located on the 68th Street campus on the upper east side of Manhattan near many major cultural institutions, Hunter College offers scholars and creative artists a vibrant and dynamic community within a highly diverse urban setting. As part of a Palestine Studies cluster hire, Hunter College is honored to announce its search for two open-rank tenure-line professors, with an expected start date in Fall 2025, in Palestinian studies with one in the social sciences and the other in the humanities, broadly defined.

The Social Sciences hire would join one of the following departments: Anthropology, History, Sociology, Political Science, or Women?s and Gender Studies.

The Humanities hire would join one of the following departments: Art and Art History, Classics/Arabic, English, Film and Media Studies, and/or Music.

We are open to diverse theoretical and methodological approaches and seek historically grounded candidates who take a critical lens to issues pertaining to Palestine, who are interested in public-facing work, and who exhibit a commitment to being part of the life of the college, a diverse and dynamic public and majority-minority undergraduate serving institution. The duties of the incoming faculty will be research, teaching, and service to the department and college. The incoming colleagues would be ready to develop and teach intellectually and/or creatively challenging courses and engage in collaboration with others across the college. We welcome innovative scholarship and pedagogy that spark our students? imaginations and understanding of their social worlds.

QUALIFICATIONS

Academic applicants must hold a PhD in one of the aforementioned fields or in closely related fields and provide evidence of a publication record. Artists must hold an MFA (or equivalent) with a record of accomplishment in their field as demonstrated by exhibitions and projects at venues relevant to the candidate's practice. We seek a record of excellent teaching and mentorship, particularly of undergraduates.

COMPENSATION

Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.

$82,928 - $99,532 (Assistant); or $100,329 - $117,805 (Associate); or $119,995 - $141,858 (Full Professor)
