Job summary

College of the Mainland seeks a Faculty member for Health Information Management on the Main Campus. The role involves delivering instruction, developing and revising curriculum, and mentoring students within the HIM program. A minimum of an Associate degree in HIM is required, with three years of HIM experience and AHIMA credentials preferred.

The position is 9 months, full-time, onsite. Preferred BS in HIM; duties include committee participation, office hours, and advising students.

Qualifications

• Must hold an AHIMA Credential: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, etc.
• Three (3) years experience in Health Information Management.
• At least an Associates degree in Health Information Management is required.
• Preferred Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, develop, and revise curriculum, syllabi, class schedules, and other course materials. Meet classes as scheduled and communicate with students and staff.
• Provide scheduled office hours for student consultation, mentoring, and advisement; participate in college committees as needed.
• Deliver instruction and facilitate learning while applying retention strategies; assess student work and issue grades in a timely manner.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Duties

1. Prepare, develop, and revise curriculum, syllabi, class schedules, and other course related materials. Meet classes as scheduled. Maintain adequate, timely, and professional communication with students, faculty, administration, and staff. Assess student work and issue students’ grades in a timely manner. Maintain office hours for student consultation and advising.
2. Serve on committees, councils, and governing groups as needed and assigned, participate in professional development activities. Participate in student recruitment and advisement and other applicable student oriented programs, organizations, and activities.
3. Other duties as assigned.

Licensing/Certification Requirements

Must hold an AHIMA Credential: RHIT , RHIA , CCS , etc.

Physical Requirements

Usual Environment: May work indoors in classroom, skills lab, and office, travel to clinical assignments. Work with students, staff, and patients during clinical teaching experience. Occasional irregular hours or weekend work. Clinical shifts will be for a period of 12 hours.
Physical: High physical demand. Must be able to stoop, bend, lift up to 50 pounds, and assist in patient care/clinical teaching situations, or demonstrate ability to perform tasks successfully. Possible exposure to communicable diseases through patient care clinical experience. Occasionally assist in 2-person lifting of patients. Identifying specific weights lifted in a transfer is difficult because it is dependent upon the amount of assistance the patient is able to offer.
A drug screening test may be required for some clinical agencies.
