Job summary

Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis invites applications for a full-time Faculty - Communication position in the Department of Communications, Graphic and Fine Arts. The successful candidate will develop curricula, deliver lectures, advise students, participate in committees, and contribute to campus and community activities across day, evening, and weekend sessions on multiple SWTCC campuses.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Speech, Oratory/Rhetoric, or Communication, or 18 graduate hours in Speech, Oratory/Rhetoric, Communication, or Speech-related Theatre.
• Minimum two (2) years of teaching in higher education, or one (1) year in higher education with three (3) years in the field; two (2) years in higher education preferred.
• Background check will be required for the successful candidate.

Job Summary

This is a full-time, academic year, faculty term appointment within the Department of Communications, Graphic and Fine Arts. The faculty member is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation (develop curricula and instructional material; prepare course syllabi), presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. The faculty member is also responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Southwest Tennessee Community College campus as assigned.
At a minimum, the related activities include instruction; instructional counseling, academic advising, serving on various committees, participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations.

Job Duties

• Prepares and delivers lectures.
• Compiles, administers, evaluates and grades students' class work, laboratory work, assignments, tests, and papers fairly and consistently; and keep students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers and other work.
• Teach Communication courses in face to face, online, and hybrid formats, as assigned, utilizing the institution’s learning management system and instructional technologies.
• Maintains office hours for students seeking advice on class work, assignments, papers, and others.
• Advises and counsels students in academic and career fields.
• Participates in departmental and college committees; and provides outreach service to the community.
• Attends all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the President, Dean or Department Chair.
• Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
• Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
• May perform other duties as assigned by Department Head/Dean.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Speech, Oratory/Rhetoric, or Communication or 18 graduate semester hours in Speech, Oratory/Rhetoric,
• Communication, or Speech-related Theatre courses plus a Master’s degree in any discipline.
  
• Minimum two (2) years of teaching experience in higher education, or one (1) year of teaching experience in higher education and three (3) years of employment in the field; two (2) years of teaching, or equivalent, at a higher education institution preferred.
  
• A background check will be required for the successful candidate.
