The School of Interdisciplinary Forensics (SIF) in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (New College) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for Faculty Associate positions during the 2026–2027 academic year to develop and teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the legal aspects of interdisciplinary forensics. Faculty Associate positions are one-semester, non-benefits-eligible, fixed-term appointments with no tenure implications, not to exceed an average of .40 FTE per semester. The number of courses is contingent upon unit needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Salary is based on qualifications and assigned teaching load.

Essential Functions of the Position

• Collaborate with instructional designers and full-time faculty to develop new interdisciplinary forensics courses, such as, but not limited to, Civil and Criminal Judicial Processes for Forensics; Crime, Culpability, and Punishment; Constitutional Frameworks for Investigations; Forensic Evidence, Experts, and Wrongful Convictions; Legal Reasoning and Principles for Interdisciplinary Forensic Sciences; and Effective Expert Testimony for Interdisciplinary Forensics.
• Teach the upper and/or lower-division courses to undergraduate students or graduate-level courses to master’s or doctoral students in face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats.
• Prepare course syllabi, lectures, learning exercises, exams, and other course materials, and grade assignments and assessments.
• Maintain regular availability to students including office hours as appropriate to course modality.
• Monitor student success and regularly respond to student academic issues.

Required Qualifications

Either one of the following by time of appointment:

• o An M.L.S, J.D., LL.M., or S.J.D. earned from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, by time of appointment and at least three years of experience in the practice of law or, alternatively, one year of full-time experience as a judicial law clerk OR
• An earned terminal degree in criminology, criminal justice, psychology, political science, sociology, or a closely related field by time of appointment and at least two semesters of experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses related to courts or law.

Desired Qualifications

• An earned master’s or doctoral degree in homeland security, terrorism studies, criminology, criminal justice, psychology, political science, sociology, or a or a closely-related social science, in addition to an earned M.L.S, J.D., LL.M., or S.J.D. earned from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association;
• Membership in a state bar (active or inactive status);
• Three or more years of experience as a practicing attorney, preferably as a litigator;
• Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with students from a wide variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including first-generation college students;
• One or more semesters of teaching undergraduate courses with strong evidence of teaching effectiveness as demonstrated by one or more of the following: student evaluations, peer evaluations, annual performance evaluations, prior course syllabi, or similar evidence.
• Experience with technology/course management systems; and
• Demonstrated excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
