Job description

The Department of Surgery, Division of Breast Surgery at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University is recruiting a fellowship- trained breast surgeon with expertise in the surgical management of breast cancer and breast disease at to work at NYP's new clinical site at 1111 Westchester Avenue in White Plains, NY. The Columbia University Breast Center at the Herbert Irving Pavilion is a multispecialty service delivering comprehensive services including prevention, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship in the New York City metro area. Applicants should be committed to a robust clinical practice within a dynamic academic medical center and motivated to engage in clinical and translational research at our National Cancer Institutes designated cancer center.


Responsibilities include:



  • Patient care including operating on patients requiring breast surgery.

  • Seeing patients in the outpatient clinic at one or more of our office locations.

  • Performing both same day and in- patient surgerycases at the attending level.

  • Participate in on-call coverage.

  • Participate in clinical and/or basic science research.

  • Participate in compliance and quality care programs of the University and of the Department of Surgery, including QAPI.

  • Additional clinical duties may be discussed based on programmatic needs and interests.


In addition to clinical duties, the incumbent will teach medical students, residents and fellows. Responsibilities include participation in the academic and research missions of the University and the Department of Surgery.


Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and credentials. A board-eligible surgeon would be appointed at the Instructor rank until board certied.


Hiring salary range is $94,945 - $125,187 (minimum faculty base for rank). The final salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.



MD or DO. Completion of General Surgery Residency training or foreign equivalent. Completion of Breast Surgery, Breast Surgical Oncology or General Surgical Oncology Fellowship training or foreign equivalent.
