Job summary

The College of Western Idaho is seeking an adjunct faculty member for the Heavy Equipment program. You will teach courses, advise students, and use Canvas for assignments, grading, and schedules.

This part-time, non-benefited position reports to the Department Chair and supports Spring 2027 offerings with evening classes. Candidates should reside in Idaho and have relevant diesel technology experience and strong hydraulic/powertrain knowledge.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; Associate degree preferred in Diesel Technology.
  • Five years of full-time recent work experience in a related field.
  • Strong familiarity with hydraulic and powertrain systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Able to use various teaching methods: lectures, group work, and distance learning.
  • Ability to advise students and support academic planning.
  • Proficient with internet, email, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • Experience teaching at a community college or with adult learners preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches contracted credit load of courses per CWI catalog descriptions.
  • Utilizes outcomes assessment measures in instruction.
  • Participates in instructional evaluation processes.
  • Meets all scheduled classes; deviations filed promptly and accurately.
  • Monitors student placement and progress; maintains accurate records.

Job description

Position Summary

The College of Western Idaho's Heavy Equipment program (HTEC) is looking for an adjunct faculty member. Adjunct faculty teach assigned courses in accordance with the College's established policies and guidelines, and assist in student advising. Adjunct faculty are required to use the Canvas learning platform for all assignments, grading, posting office hours, making announcements, etc.

Essential Functions
  • Teaches contracted credit load of courses in accordance with the descriptions published in the CWI catalog
  • Utilizes outcomes assessment measures
  • Participates in instructional evaluation processes
  • Meets all scheduled classes with any deviation being filed promptly and accurately through the appropriate channels
  • Monitors student placement in courses and student progress; maintains accurate records
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, Associate's degree in Diesel Technology is preferred
  • Five years of full-time recent work experience in a related field
  • Strong familiarity with hydraulic and powertrain systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to adapt to variety of teaching methodologies including lectures, group activities, individual instruction, distance learning, and teaching with technology
  • Ability to advise students
  • Proficiency in usage of internet, email, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications
  • Demonstrated experience teaching at a community college or with adult learners preferred

Additional Instructions for Applicants

This position is for our Spring 2027 semester. Monday thru Thursday, 5:00pm-10:30pm. Successful candidates must reside in Idaho. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
