Job summary

United Launch Alliance in Decatur, AL, seeks a Level 2 Systems Engineer to join the Systems Engineering Team responsible for rigorous discipline across Vulcan and Atlas launch vehicle systems.

You will support embedded factory scope systems engineering, manage interfaces across mechanical, propulsion, avionics, and software, and contribute to requirements development, verification, risk management and gate reviews.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field from an accredited college or university.
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering and Integration principles.
  • Proven experience using those principles with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience developing, integrating, and verifying requirements.
  • Self-motivated with initiative and teamwork on technical projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including in presentations.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Embedded Decatur factory scope systems engineering support within the larger team centered in Denver.
  • Perform integration ensuring subsystems function as an integrated system by managing mechanical, propulsion, avionics, software, and analysis interfaces.
  • Support requirements development and verification, failure analysis, risk management, trade studies and gate reviews.
  • Support all phases of the total system product: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, certification, operation, reuse, maintenance and disposal.
  • Apply scaling of systems engineering activities appropriate to project needs.

Job Overview & Responsibilities

The position is part of a Systems Engineering Team in the Recurring Chief Engineer’s Office responsible for driving rigorous systems engineering into ULA’s Vulcan and Atlas Launch Vehicle Systems. Level 2 Systems Engineers work under the guidance of senior engineers to apply foundational technical depth and systems engineering discipline across multidisciplinary teams. Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Embedded Decatur factory scope systems engineering support while operating as part of the larger systems engineering team more heavily centered in Denver.
  • Performs integration ensuring that subsystems function together as an integrated system by managing mechanical, propulsion, avionics, software, and analysis interfaces.
  • Supports all systems engineering activities including requirements development and verification, failure mode analysis, test-like-you fly, risk/issue/opportunity management, trade studies, and gate reviews.
  • Supports all phases of total system product: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, certification, operation, reuse, maintenance, and disposal.
  • Responsible for applying appropriate scaling of systems engineering activities commensurate with the specific project needs.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field from an accredited college or university.
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering and Integration principles.
  • Proven experience using those principles successfully with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience developing, integrating, and verifying requirements.
  • Self‑motivated with demonstrated initiative and teamwork skills on previous technical projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including in a presentation setting.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiar with launch vehicles and associated aerospace standards.
  • Previous work experience in an Aerospace company.
  • Proficient in Requirements Management tools.
  • Knowledge and use of Teamcenter or similar.
