JOB SUMMARY:

Facility Tech I: Under direct supervision, the Facility Tech I is responsible for assisting in the installation, repair, and maintenance of City facilities, buildings, grounds, and related equipment. Facility Tech I is the entry level, trainee, and first working level in the Facility Tech job family. Persons employed in this class work initially under immediate supervision and receive detailed instructions and training for assignments. A Facility Tech I is considered a trainee and is expected to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to advance to the next level of Facility Tech II. Employees are expected to progress to the point of being able to perform assigned tasks independently with only general supervision.

Facility Tech II: Under general supervision, the Facility Tech II is responsible for performing installation, repair, and maintenance of City facilities, buildings, grounds, and related equipment. Assists in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel. Positions are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the Facility Tech I level, or, when filled from the outside, requires prior directly related work experience.

Facility Tech III: Under minimal supervision, the Facility Tech III is responsible for performing the installation, repair, and maintenance of City facilities, buildings, grounds, and related equipment. The Facility Tech III assumes responsibility of the Fleet & Facilities Department in the Supervisor’s absence. Facility Tech II’s may perform a variety of skilled tasks within specialty areas, where a Facility Tech III may be assigned to a single specialty requiring a higher level of skill.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facility Tech I

  • Assists Facility Tech II and III on HVAC preventative maintenance, electrical, and plumbing.

  • Replaces light bulbs, ballasts, light fixtures, electrical outlets and switches.

  • Assists in the repair of windows, doors, shelves, fixtures, furniture, plumbing, and major appliances, and related equipment as directed.

  • Performs general custodial duties and cleaning duties.

  • Assists Facility Technicians II and III in various job duties as needed.

  • Must be available for 24-hour re-call and must be able to respond to emergency situations as required.

  • Drives vehicles and operates equipment as required.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Facility Tech II

  • Assists in the installation, repair and performance of preventive maintenance on air conditioning and heating systems, all electrical facilities and systems, including all indoor and outdoor lighting.

  • Repairs windows, doors, shelves, fixtures, furniture, plumbing, major appliances and related equipment as directed.

  • Assists in remodeling or renovation projects requiring use of all types of hand and power tools.

  • Responsible for maintaining equipment and materials used and replenishes supplies as needed and performs light janitorial work upon supervisors request.

  • Must be available for 24-hour re-call and must be able to respond to emergency situations as required.

  • Drives vehicles and operates equipment as required.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Performs specialty tasks related to the installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of air conditioning and heating systems, electrical facilities and systems, including in-house remodels, and all indoor and outdoor lighting.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision, including the scheduling of work and training of Facility Tech I and II positions and assists in supervising and assigning jobs.
