Job summary

NorthShore Health Centers is seeking a Facilities staff member to maintain a clean, safe, and functional environment across all locations. Responsibilities include performing minor repairs, painting, shelving installation, and equipment upkeep in a healthcare setting.

The role requires strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and excellent communication. Collaboration with the Director and Facilities team supports safety plans and efficient daily operations.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • One year of facilities, maintenance, and/or mechanical experience in a healthcare setting or related field.
  • Minimum education includes a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred education includes an Associate's degree in business, leadership, or healthcare related studies.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Make minor repairs to doors, windows, walls, floors, hardware, fixtures, equipment, etc., using appropriate carpentry and other tools.
  • Change fixtures, filters, light bulbs, etc, as needed.
  • Install items such as shelving, cabinets, etc., using appropriate carpentry tools.
  • Paint and wallpaper NorthShore Health Centers buildings using brushes, rollers, spray equipment, paints, primers and lacquers.
  • Assemble, install, and/or repair facility furnishings and fixtures; perform minor equipment repairs.
  • Maintain and clean tools, equipment, materials and job sites.
  • Support safety plans and procedures; participate in safety trainings.
  • Adhere to Compliance guidelines and assist Director/Facilities team as needed.

Job description

Summary/ObjectiveFacilities staff ensures an attractive environment throughout each NorthShore facility location by performing the following duties.Essential FunctionsMakes minor repairs to doors, windows, walls, floors, hardware, fixtures, equipment, etc., using appropriate carpentry and other tools.Changes fixtures, filters, light bulbs, etc, as needed.Installs items such as shelving, cabinets, etc., using appropriate carpentry and other tools.Paints and wallpapers NSHC buildings, using brushes, rollers, spray equipment, paints, primers and lacquers.Assembles, installs, and/or repairs facility furnishings and fixtures;Makes minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mower, spreader, and snow removal equipment.Cleans and maintains tools, equipment, materials and work sites.Notifies Director or Facilities Lead of repairs or maintenance when needed.Helps Manager write safety plans, check lists and policies.Conducts safety training with Director when assigned.Provides help to the Director for improving and updating safety policies, procedures and safety program.Promotes and displays knowledge of safety consciousness, universal precautions, and proper body mechanics; uses equipment and materials properly according to training and/or guidelinesPerforms other tasks and duties as assigned by the manager in an efficient, effective and cost-conscious manner.All other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities, Facilities Lead, CEO or CAO.Follows NorthShore Health Centers’ Compliance guidelines at all times.*These essential functions are a summary of the primary duties and responsibilities of the position, and are not intended to be a comprehensive listing of all duties and responsibilities. Work may include hand dexterity as well as the need to reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
