Job summary

Aqua America, Inc. is seeking a Facility Operator to support water production and wastewater facilities, lift stations, and distribution systems in PA. The role involves performing routine water quality analyses, adjusting chemical treatments, and maintaining system documentation.

Entry-level position with no prior experience required and a valid U.S. driver’s license. Travel to multiple sites with a company vehicle provided; on-call availability for 24/7 operations may be required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow operating instructions accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain equipment at water production facilities and booster stations.
  • Operate and maintain distribution systems including mains, valves, hydrants, and service lines.
  • Maintain equipment at wastewater treatment facilities and lift stations.
  • Operate and maintain sewer collection systems including collection mains and pump stations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair service piping and related equipment.
  • Perform routine water quality analysis in accordance with established processes and procedures.
  • Make operational adjustments as needed to comply with state and federal water quality standards.
  • Adjust chemical treatment to ensure water quality meets standards.
  • Calculate various ratios and dosages.
  • Complete customer service work orders, update and maintain appropriate system documentation, and close work orders in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  • Perform all tasks safely, professionally and in accordance with company policies and procedures, as well as local, state and federal laws, rules, and guidelines.
  • Assist with other tasks or projects as assigned.

Aqua, an Essential Utilities company, is seeking a Facility Operator to support the operation of water production facilities, wastewater treatment facilities, lift stations, booster stations, distribution systems, and the wastewater collection system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Maintain equipment at assigned water production facilities and booster stations.

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Familiarity with computers/tablets and basic operation of database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs (preferred).
  • Ability to read, understand and accurately follow operating instructions, both written and verbal.
  • Mathematical ability to perform calculations for ratios, dosages, and volumetric measurements required for wastewater and water treatment operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate in writing.
  • Familiarity with and understanding of the need to prevent wastewater pollution of area waters.
  • Ability to understand and maintain process through computer‑controlled equipment.
  • Team player able to work effectively in a multi‑tasking environment.
CERTIFICATION & CAREER PROGRESSION
  • FO Trainee – Required to pass either a Water or Wastewater general examination and at least one required subclass within 24 months of employment.
  • FO I – Minimum certification requirement of Class C Water or Wastewater.
  • FO II – Minimum certification requirement of Class C Water and Class C Wastewater.
  • FO III – Minimum certification requirement of Class C Water and Class C Wastewater, with all required subclasses.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • May be subject to extreme temperatures, noise, wet and/or humid conditions, mechanical, electrical, gas exposure hazards, fumes, dusts, mists, gases, and/or poor ventilation.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents.
  • Company vehicle provided.
  • Commuter vehicle provided for work purposes only.
  • The on‑call schedule requires availability nights and weekends to adequately staff a 24‑hour, 7‑day operation.
  • Physical demands are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this job.
