Pay: $27.00 - $34.00 Hourly
Must Successfully complete OSHA‑10 training upon hire
Summary: The Facility Operator’s primary function is to ensure high‑quality material is safely obtained, produced, and handled. This position provides industry related technical assessments and manages the inventory levels of materials including logistical processes and documentation requirements. Facility operations include proper operation and maintenance of all equipment including light electrical. The position is responsible for housekeeping of all responsible areas and equipment, and daily interaction with the host company, promoting a teamwork environment. This position is inside an iron‑making facility – blast furnace at Burns Harbor Steel Mill.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure that all tests are safely performed according to plant and industry standards, including ASTM, ACI, and DOT testing procedures and evaluations.
- Sample, test, monitor, and report on daily production of materials at the Burns Harbor facility to ensure compliance with applicable specifications; including federal, state, and project specifications.
- Advise host production facility and Ozinga management of all irregularities and relay test reports as required.
- Ensure that all products/samples are labeled correctly and clearly.
- Manage inventory and generate reports accordingly.
- Coordinate logistics, scale ticketing, stockpile, and inventory management.
- Execute and document QC checklist and as‑built drawings for all products and equipment.
- Perform visual inspection assessments of jobsite conditions, solutions, and recommendations to correct problems if they occur; maintain a safe jobsite and working conditions.
- Maintain orderly site housekeeping and compliance.
- Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance on a daily basis.
- Properly maintain and operate all equipment – fixed and mobile.
- Apply continuous improvement practices to all tasks and duties.
- Participate 100% in the company’s safety program.
Employee Relations
- Advise host production company and Ozinga management of irregularities and relay test reports.
- Communicate with customers, vendors, transportation companies, and the host company administrators regarding product utilization and logistics.
- Work in a heavy industrial environment; iron‑making facility at Burns Harbor required.
Global Responsibilities
- Regular attendance and physical presence at work is an essential function of this position.
- This job may require additional duties not listed above and the employee may be asked to perform those duties to meet business needs.
Qualifications
Education, Specialized Knowledge, and Professional Certifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Working knowledge of all the products and materials used in the production of the product.
Experience
- Equipment experience preferred (Man Lift, Skid Steer, Loader).
- Industrial work environment experience preferred.
- OSHA‑10 preferred but not required at the time of application.
