FACILITY MECHANIC - WATER/WASTEWATER (PERM/FT/BENEFITS)

Job Overview

This position involves operating, maintaining, and repairing water pumping stations and treatment facilities for Harford County. Responsibilities include learning safety standards, mechanical and electrical equipment operation, and performing preventive and corrective maintenance. Work may involve rotating shifts, outdoor environments, and exposure to various hazards.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Operate and monitor pumps, valves, and gauges; record readings.
  2. Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment.
  3. Repair pumps and related components.
  4. Maintain facility buildings and grounds.
  5. Adjust electrical control systems and chemical processes.
  6. Respond to emergency conditions and customer complaints.
  7. Operate electronic monitoring systems and maintain records.
  8. Attend safety and technical training sessions.
  9. Collaborate with team members and contractors.
Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of water systems, pumps, troubleshooting, and safety procedures. Ability to read gauges, maintain records, and perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs. Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain necessary water treatment licenses.

Work Conditions

Outdoor and indoor environments, potential hazards, and the need for protective equipment. Willingness to work on a 24/7 basis, including weekends and shifts.

Additional Information

Positions include Water Facility Mechanic Trainee and Water Facility Mechanic, with specific experience and licensing requirements. Benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, paid leave, and tuition reimbursement. Selected candidates are subject to drug testing and must be available for critical on-call work.
