Job summary

Voyageur Environmental Center is seeking a Facility Manager to oversee the care, safety, functionality, and long-term stewardship of our 100+ acre campus.

This hands-on facility management role ensures all buildings, grounds, infrastructure, vehicles, equipment, and outdoor spaces are safe, operational, welcoming, and ready to support youth programs, camp operations, rentals, and community events year-round.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of building systems including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Experience managing multiple priorities independently in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to supervise contractors and coordinate outside vendors.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital recordkeeping systems.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operation, maintenance, and repair of all buildings, cabins, classrooms, offices, common areas.
• Maintain roads, parking areas, trails, outdoor learning environments, waterfront areas, athletic spaces, and grounds.
• Coordinate opening/closing procedures for seasonal camp operations and special events.
• Maintain an inventory of facility assets, tools, vehicles, and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, fire, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Develop and maintain facility emergency response procedures and participate in safety planning.
• Coordinate and oversee contractors, service providers, and vendors; obtain bids and approve completion.
• Develop rolling capital replacement plan and manage annual facilities budgets.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities & Grounds

Oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of all buildings, cabins, classrooms, offices, common areas , and support facilities.

Maintain roads, parking areas, trails, outdoor learning environments, waterfront areas, athletic spaces, and grounds.

Conduct routine inspections and develop preventative maintenance schedules for buildings, utilities, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, equipment, and infrastructure.

Coordinate opening and closing procedures for seasonal camp operations and special events .

Maintain an inventory of facility assets, tools, vehicles, and equipment.

Safety & Compliance

Ensure compliance with health, safety, fire, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Conduct regular facility safety inspections and immediately address potential hazards.

Maintain emergency systems, fire extinguishers, alarms, lighting, and other life-safety equipment.

Develop and maintain facility emergency response procedures and participate in organizational safety planning.

Respond to urgent facility issues and coordinate after- hours emergency response when needed.

Sustainability & Stewardship

Implement environmentally responsible maintenance practices consistent with Voyageur's environmental mission.

Support energy efficiency, waste reduction, conservation efforts, and responsible resource management.

Monitor environmental conditions, drainage, erosion, vegetation, and natural resource stewardship across the property.

Promote sustainable facility practices that preserve the long-term health of the campus.

Operations Support

Set up and break down spaces for programs, camps, retreats, rentals, weddings, and special events .

Collaborate closely with program staff to ensure facilities support exceptional youth and guest experiences.

Assist with seasonal planning related to weather, snow removal, storm preparedness, and year-round site readiness.

Serve as the primary point of contact for facility-related issues, repairs, and operational needs.

Coordinate and oversee contractors, service providers, and vendors performing work on the property.

Obtain bids, review proposals, monitor work quality, and approve project completion.

Develop productive relationships with trusted vendors and subcontractors.

Ensure all contracted work meets safety, quality, and budget expectations.

Budget & Asset Management

Assist in developing and managing annual facilities and maintenance budgets.

Track maintenance expenses and recommend cost-effective solutions.

Maintain records of warranties, inspections, repairs, and facility investments.

Develop and maintain a rolling capital replacement plan for major facility assets, infrastructure, and equipment.

Provide recommendations for facility improvements, renovations, and future capital projects.

Requirements

Required

CPR/First Aid certification.

OSHA training or related safety certifications.
