Job Summary

The Plumber assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems by performing the specified duties. The Plumber will support multiple CRVA venues: Charlotte Convention Center, NASCAR Hall of Fame, and Bojangles Entertainment Complex.

  1. Essential Job Duties
  • Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
  • Inspects structures to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of the structure resulting from installation of pipes.
  • Locates and marks position of pipes and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors.
  • Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipes and fittings.
  • Cuts and threads pipes.
  • Bends pipes to required angles using pipe-bending machines or by hand over a block.
  • Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes made of metals (iron, steel, brass, lead) and nonmetals (glass, vitrified clay, plastic).
  • Joins pipes using screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints.
  • Fills pipe systems with water or air and checks for leaks using pressure gauges.
  • Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, water heaters, tanks, garbage disposals, dishwashers, and water softeners.
  • Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers, mending burst pipes, and unclogging drains.
  • Welds fixtures to steel structural members.
  • Troubleshoots issues during events to ensure no interruptions.
  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in multiple disciplines: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, ice technician, carpentry/painting, mechanical trades.
  • Commitment to quality, safety, and timely project completion.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Teamwork and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with customers and vendors.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma plus 2-3 years of specialized schooling and 3-5 years of related experience, or equivalent.
  • Plumber’s license required.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and use of hands and power tools.
