Job summary

Mount Michael Benedictine Abbey and School in Elkhorn, NE, is seeking a full-time Maintenance worker to support the Facilities Department. The role focuses on safe, efficient care of the monastic residence and school buildings and grounds.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • To work, as directed, in the efficient maintenance and operation of the monastic residence and school buildings and grounds.
  • Keep the buildings and grounds safe, clean, and neat.
  • Work as directed to perform general maintenance and repairs that do not require a specialized technician on monastic residence and school property, facilities, fixtures and equipment.
  • Assist with monitoring the security of the building.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of general carpentry and repair skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Ability and willingness to use equipment within the facilities to complete assigned tasks.
  • Willingness to vacuum, sweep, and mop floors, clean windows, etc. if requested to do so.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills to cooperatively deal with a variety of personnel, vendors, and patrons.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to follow instructions and accept constructive feedback from supervisor and/or other administrators.
  • Possess problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Adaptable to varying work situations.
  • Must have demonstrated good attendance, organizational and time management skills.
  • Respect for the mission and values of Mount Michael Benedictine Abbey and School.
  • Must be able to work alone and be a team player working successfully in collaboration with others to complete tasks.
  • Ability to use a computer and basic use of Microsoft programs.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience with cleaning, upkeep and repair of commercial facilities (preferred). However, on-the-job training would be available to the right candidate.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
