Facility Maintenance Technician III

The Master Mechanic provides skilled mechanic functions to maintain the integrity and operability of the buildings and grounds of UVA Medical Central and other affiliated facilities. The position requires the ability to effectively interact with all facility stakeholders. The Master Mechanic must be able to work independently with a minimum of supervision. He/She must also be a good time manager and able to prioritize the many competing tasks to meet the goals of UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper. The specific job functions include, but are not limited to:
Customer Service: Collaborates with service personnel, inspectors, and vendors in facility maintenance.
Safety: Ensures company assets are in a safe working condition.
Compliance: Maintains knowledge and compliance with regulatory agencies.
Inter-departmental Collaboration: Interacts with individuals from different departments and levels of authority.
Engineering and Maintenance Expertise: Maintains the service life of company assets such as physical structures, HVAC, mechanical, utilities, and grounds.
The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: High school or GED required.
Experience: Minimum of 6 years of experience performing plant operations and general maintenance in a manufacturing, industrial, or similar facility or similar work environment required. Minimum of 4 years of experience performing plant operations and general maintenance in a health care facility or similar work environment preferred.
Licensure: Valid driver’s license required. Must produce acceptable DMV driving record. Current Master Tradesman's license preferred. Significant and relevant mechanical system experience may be accepted in lieu of licensure.
Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Ability to successfully apply customer satisfaction standards. Knowledgeable in the use of a variety of hand and power tools used in facility maintenance. Ability to interact with individuals of all cultures and levels of authority. General abilities in all building and construction trades and manual labor. Must be able to interpret plans, drawings, and other construction documentation. Must have strong problem-solving skills. Must have substantial plumbing, mechanical, and refrigeration repair experience.
Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Basic knowledge of principles in design, operation, and repair of all types of mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC equipment. Knowledge in reading and understanding building system drawings. Understanding or health care facility infection prevention requirements as they relate to maintenance activities. Knowledge of universal hazardous materials waste as it relates to maintenance activities.

The job requires standing and walking constantly and frequently bending/stooping. Frequent repetitive body movements. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
