Facility Engineer II

Summary
The Facilities Engineer II supports and leads the maintenance, reliability, and continuous improvement of facility electrical systems and infrastructure within a manufacturing environment. This role independently troubleshoots electrical systems, drives equipment reliability initiatives, coordinates contractors, and manages assigned infrastructure projects while partnering with senior engineers, maintenance teams, and operations personnel. The position provides technical ownership for facility electrical systems including medium and low voltage power distribution, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), transformers, protective relays, and related infrastructure supporting manufacturing operations. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy, exercises judgment in resolving complex electrical issues, and may provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers and technicians.
Responsibilities
- Lead and execute maintenance, repair, and improvement projects related to facility electrical systems and infrastructure
- Independently diagnose electrical issues, coordinate repairs, and direct field activities, escalating complex or high-risk conditions to senior engineering
- Provide technical oversight of medium and low voltage power distribution systems, switchgear, MCCs, transformers, protective relays, and related infrastructure
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical drawings, and related documentation
- Plan and execute electrical equipment installations, testing, commissioning, calibration, and validation activities
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance and reliability improvement initiatives to minimize equipment downtime and improve system performance
- Utilize electrical testing equipment including multimeters, insulation testers, and related diagnostic tools to support troubleshooting and maintenance activities
- Manage contractor activities and project execution to ensure compliance with safety, scope, schedule, and operational requirements
- Analyze facility and operational data to identify inefficiencies, determine root cause, and lead continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with maintenance, production, and engineering teams to support daily manufacturing operations
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers and technicians on electrical systems and troubleshooting practices
- Provide secondary support for troubleshooting mechanical systems and coordinate with mechanical specialists when required
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, maintenance guides, and technical documentation
- Support facility expansion, renovation, and infrastructure improvement projects, including scope definition and vendor coordination
- Comply with all health, safety, environmental, and fire safety regulations, including electrical safety and lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements
- Follow established emergency communication protocols and escalate incidents to appropriate personnel according to company procedures
- Maintain regular and reliable on-site attendance
- Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain; Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container)
- Perform other duties as assigned
Essential Employee Status
This position supports essential facility and utility operations. The role may require support during shutdowns, maintenance windows, facility projects, off-hours, weekends, or emergency situations to maintain facility operations and minimize operational impact.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Controls Engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience
- Candidates with equivalent technical education, military technical training, or an Associate degree with relevant hands-on electrical experience may also be considered
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in industrial facility management, facility engineering, electrical construction, or a related field required
- Experience supporting industrial electrical systems or power distribution infrastructure required
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting, testing, commissioning, or leading reliability initiatives on electrical systems required
- Experience managing contractors or coordinating infrastructure projects preferred
- Experience working within manufacturing, industrial, or construction environments preferred
- Experience providing technical guidance to other engineers or technicians preferred
- Demonstrated reliable work history and consistent attendance in prior employment

Skills
- Understanding of medium and low voltage electrical distribution systems
- Knowledge of switchgear, MCCs, transformers, protective relays, motor controls, and industrial electrical equipment

- Familiarity with electrical testing equipment including multimeters, insulation testers, and related diagnostic tools
- Understanding of electrical safety principles, including arc flash awareness and lockout/tagout practices
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills on complex electrical systems
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and facility operations
- Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma preferred
- Ability to manage contractors, scope, and project execution
- Ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced personnel
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to properly and regularly utilize the following PPE for periods of up to 12 hours: safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, nitrile gloves, ear protection, cleanroom suit, and arc flash PPE as required
- Must be able to repeatedly lift, push, and pull materials or equipment for periods of up to 12 hours
- Must be able to repeatedly stoop, twist, and bend for periods of up to 12 hours
- Must be able to repeatedly reach overhead for periods of up to 12 hours
- Must be able to stand, walk, and move throughout facility, utility, and electrical distribution areas for extended periods
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods
- Must be able to use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, testing devices, and computer systems
- Work is performed within a manufacturing facility and may include office, utility, electrical distribution, mechanical, and operational areas
- Work may involve handling or working in proximity to hazardous materials and regulated industrial chemicals
- Exposure to chemical vapors, dust, noise, heat, and energized electrical equipment may occur depending on area assignment
- Strict adherence to company safety policies, electrical safety requirements, and OSHA Hazard Communication requirements is mandatory
- Employees must properly wear and maintain assigned personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times within designated areas
- Required PPE may include respirators, chemical-resistant garments, gloves, eye protection, face shields, arc flash PPE, or other equipment determined by process and risk assessment
