Job summary

Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority (MKAA) is seeking a Facility Electrician to keep McGhee Tyson and Downtown Island airports powered, safe, and operational. You will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems across facilities and equipment, interpreting wiring diagrams and coordinating on-call responses for emergencies.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in electrical engineering or completion of a certified 4- or 5-year Electrician Journeyman apprenticeship program; or equivalent years of relevant experience.
  • 3–5 years' experience in high and low voltage electrical systems repair with experience in industrial maintenance.
  • Must be able to obtain an Electrical license (LLE) or City of Knoxville Electrical Maintenance Class 3 license within 24 months of hiring.

Responsibilities

  • Performs inspections and repairs of airport areas, security gates, terminal lights, and employee work areas.
  • Responds to electrical and mechanical emergencies on airport property; may be on-call.
  • Makes repairs to complicated electrical wiring from blueprints and specifications; prioritizes projects.
  • Performs preventative and corrective electrical maintenance for Airport Authority buildings, facilities, and street lighting systems.
  • Electrical troubleshooting and repair of boarding bridges, bag belts, bag lifts, air compressors, circulator pumps, boilers, and other equipment.
  • Performs inspections and repairs of high mast lighting.
  • May perform minor facility maintenance repairs (plumbing, HVAC, access control, passenger conveyance, baggage systems).
  • Performs related work as required.

The Position:

Keep the airport powered, safe, and operating around the clock. As a Facility Electrician, you will play a critical role in maintaining the electrical systems that support airport operations, including facilities, equipment, and related electromechanical systems. This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment; diagnosing and resolving electrical issues; interpreting wiring diagrams and schematics; calculating circuit loads; and ensuring all work is completed in compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate is a skilled problem-solver who takes pride in supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a dynamic airport environment.

  • Makes repairs to complicated electrical wiring, working from blueprints and construction specifications, and prioritizes projects.
  • Performs preventative and corrective electrical maintenance for Airport Authority buildings, facilities, and street lighting systems in accordance with codes, standards, and other requirements.
  • Electrical troubleshooting and repair of boarding bridges, bag belts, bag lifts, air compressors, circulator pumps, boilers, and other various equipment.
  • Performs inspections and repairs of high mast lighting.
  • May be required to perform or assist with minor facility maintenance repairs to include plumbing, HVAC, access control, passenger conveyance, and baggage systems.
  • Performs related work as required.
The Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for a dependable, safety-minded electrician who enjoys working in a dynamic airport environment and takes pride in keeping critical operations running smoothly. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of electrical systems, safety protocols, and airport operations, along with the ability to read blueprints and effectively troubleshoot electrical issues. They are organized, communicate well, build positive working relationships, and can work independently while remaining calm and responsive during urgent situations. Most importantly, they are committed to supporting safe, reliable airport operations and are comfortable working outdoors, responding to emergency repairs, and performing work at heights exceeding 30 feet.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Salary and Compensation:

The hiring range for this position is $60,037.84 to $78,049.19 (final salary will depend on experience). MKAA offers a very competitive benefits package for this position, including medical/dental/vision benefits, disability/life insurance, vacation leave, sick leave, 401(a)-retirement program.
