Job summary

The Salvation Army Jamaica Corps is seeking a dedicated maintenance assistant to manage cleaning, supplies, and basic repairs at the Jamaica Corps facility. The role covers indoor cleaning, grounds upkeep, and daily organization of donations and program spaces.

You will assist with room setups, winter/summer HVAC prep, and light repairs, working under supervision as needed to keep the facility safe and welcoming for programs and community services.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED desired but not required.
• Experience with cleaning materials and methods desired.
• Must be able to work independently with only some supervision and support.
• Possess oral and written communication skills, as well as basic mathematical abilities.
• Must be able to use commercial cleaning equipment, including small power and hand tools.
• Able to do repairs and other maintenance work, such as fixing, replacing, and repairing, and have a good working knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting.

Responsibilities

• Thorough cleaning of the entire building as outlined in the cleaning schedule.
• Inventory control, ordering and stocking of all cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Setting up and breaking down rooms for program purposes as needed.
• Cleaning and maintenance of outside grounds & windows.
• Touch up paint as needed.
• Timely moving of all donations through contact with ARC and thrift store representative.
• Preparation of A/C and Heating Thermostats and Heat-Timer for winter and summer.
• Breakdown and disposal of boxes and other garbage daily, keeping dumpsters and the area neat and clean.
• Turn out all lights (except offices) and secure building each day prior to leaving.
• Assist staff and volunteers with lifting/moving items as needed.

Overview

Responsible for the overall cleaning and preventative maintenance for the Jamaica Corps.

Responsibilities

• Thorough cleaning of the entire building as outlined in the cleaning schedule
• Inventory control, ordering and stocking of all cleaning supplies and equipment
• Setting up and breaking down rooms for program purposes as needed
• Cleaning and maintenance of outside grounds & windows
• Touch up paint as needed
• Timely moving of all donations through contact with ARC and thrift store representative
• Preparation of A/C and Heating Thermostats and Heat-Timer for winter and summer
• Breakdown and disposal of boxes and other garbage daily, keeping dumpsters and the area neat and clean
• Taking out dumpsters as scheduled and bringing them back on time.
• Turn out all lights (except offices) and secure building each day prior to leaving
• Unloading food items and other donations
• Assist in food pick-up from donors
• Move/lift furnishings, equipment and food items
• Errands and/or donation pick-up
• Salt & snow removal of sidewalks, entrance ways, dumpster area, and parking area clean-up included snow fall outside of the normal work schedule
• Comply with preventative maintenance schedule
• Work in consultation with Direct Supervisor & Corps Officer for any building maintenance problems
• Preventative maintenance and cleaning of vehicles
• HVAC, Plumbing & electrical work as permitted by respective codes
• Coordination with outside contractors for quotes and work as approved
• Coordination of all inspections related to physical buildings
• Christmas Related Duties:
• Food / toy pickups and deliveries as needed
• Transportation of kettle workers as needed
• Christmas Castle Set-up
• Daily cleaning of Christmas Castle
• Assist staff and volunteers with lifting/moving items as needed.
