Estimated Pay Range: $26.40 - $44.00 / hour, based on location, education, & experience.

Work Shift: Day

Position Summary: This position provides coding and abstracting for high complexity inpatient services, reviewing diagnosis and procedure information, coding diagnoses and procedures using ICD CM and PCS, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards. Acts as a subject-matter expert and mentor within the team.

Core Functions:

  • Analyzes medical records to assign accurate diagnostic and procedural codes, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and reimbursement requirements.
  • Abstracts clinical diagnoses, procedure codes, and other pertinent information from patient encounters, ensuring complete and accurate records.
  • Provides quality assurance for coding, ensuring adherence to regulations and standards from agencies like CMS, OIG, and others.
  • Serves as a knowledge resource and mentor to less experienced staff, collaborating with leadership on training needs.
  • Works under general supervision, applying expertise in complex coding matters.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma/GED, specialized training in medical coding, and certification such as CCS, COC, CPC, RHIT, or RHIA. Requires 5+ years of inpatient coding experience in an acute care setting. Ability to work remotely with standard office and coding software.

Preferred Qualifications: Associate’s degree or equivalent experience, prior experience in large healthcare organizations.

Additional Information: This is a fully remote, full-time position with flexible hours, available in specific states. A coding assessment will be required post-interview. Banner provides equipment and ongoing support.
