Work Shift: Day

This is a fully remote position available in specific states, with flexible hours typically between 7am – 7pm. A coding assessment will be required after the interview. Banner Health provides equipment and ongoing support for your career development.

Position Summary

This role involves high-complexity inpatient coding at all Banner hospitals, including diagnosis and procedure coding using ICD CM and PCS, and completing MS-DRG and APR-DRG assignments. Acts as a subject-matter expert and role model within the team.

Core Functions

1. Analyze medical records, assign accurate codes, and consult with providers for clarification.
2. Abstract clinical diagnoses and procedures, ensuring complete and accurate documentation.
3. Ensure coding compliance with all regulatory standards and act as a resource for internal and external stakeholders.
4. Mentor less experienced team members and collaborate on training needs.
5. Work under general supervision, applying expertise to interpret coding guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent, with formal training in medical coding or an associate’s degree in a healthcare-related field.
• Active certification such as CCS, COC, CPC, RHIT, or RHIA.
• At least five years of inpatient coding experience in an acute care setting.
• Ability to work remotely with standard software and coding systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Experience in large, multi-system healthcare organizations.
