Position Overview
Seeking a motivated, experienced Outpatient | Acute Care | HIMS Complex Coder to join our talented Acute Care HIMS Coding Team. Candidates should have complex coding experience across all service lines, including General, Orthopedic, Urology/Gynecology, Cardiac, Spinal, etc., with ICD-10CM and ICD-10-PCS expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Code diagnostic and procedural information accurately, ensuring compliance with national guidelines and reimbursement requirements.
- Abstract clinical diagnoses, procedures, and other pertinent information from patient records.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards, including CMS, OIG, HCFA, and Banner policies.
- Mentor less experienced staff and act as a subject matter expert for complex coding issues.
- Work independently within defined rules, addressing complex coding matters and interpreting guidelines.
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent, with formal training in medical record keeping, anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
- Certification such as CCS, COC, CPC, RHIT, or RHIA, active with AHIMA or AAPC.
- Two or more years of outpatient complex experience in an acute care healthcare setting.
- Proficiency in ICD-10CM/PCS, CPT4 coding principles, and related competencies.
- Ability to work effectively remotely using standard office and coding software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates degree or equivalent experience.
- Experience in large, multi-system healthcare organizations.
Additional Details
- Position is fully remote, available in specified states.
- Flexible hours, generally between 7 am – 7 pm, Monday - Friday.
- Coding assessment required post-interview.
