Job summary

Mesa Public Schools is seeking a custodial specialist to perform school custodial tasks, follow the principal's instructions, and support safety and energy conservation initiatives.

This full-time position offers a base hourly rate of $17.78 plus benefits and annual performance pay. Candidates should have at least one year of custodial experience; a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year custodial experience.
• Working knowledge of custodial equipment, supplies and cleaning procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform custodial functions for school including specific custodial work assignments
• Implement instructions from principal
• Assist principal with safety, energy conservation and security procedures
• Provide input regarding the summer maintenance of school
• Coordinate work orders generated at school site
• Generate work requests from maintenance
• Order and maintain supplies to ensure adequate quantity and availability
• Act as principal’s liaison with the night lead custodian
• Assist with start-up and closing of school
• Regular and on-time attendance required
• May work special events at school
• Keep record of extra time for student fund events and overtime
• Respond to bloodborne pathogen incidents with urgency; this is a critical and time-sensitive responsibility.
• Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
• Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
• Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools

1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximum

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Indoors and outdoors across school facilities, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, gyms, and playgrounds
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment
• Tasks can vary from day to day—cleaning, setting up rooms, assisting with minor repairs, moving furniture, or handling deliveries
• Slippery floors, lifting heavy items, exposure to bodily fluids, loud noises (e.g., machinery), and outdoor weather conditions
• Often works with other maintenance staff, custodians, or under the direction of a facility manager
• Frequently required to lift/move objects typically between 25–50 pounds; occasionally up to 75 pounds
