Position Summary

The Facilities Worker I independently performs a variety of semi‑skilled facilities and systems maintenance functions and works under the direction of a journey‑level crafts worker. A significant portion of the assigned work will involve roof maintenance and hardscape repairs. Incumbent may also serve in a supporting role for other work assigned to the Multicraft shop that does not require the oversight of a journey‑level crafts worker.

Classification

Non‑Exempt (eligible for overtime compensation)

Salary Range

$4,250 per month (Step 1) – $4,882 per month (Step 8). CSU salary range: $4,250 per month (Step 1) – $5,720 per month (Step 16). Salary step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience.

Work Hours

Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Work hours may include evening and weekends, dependent on department needs. Position works on‑site.

Department Information

Facilities Management is the steward for the University buildings, infrastructure, grounds and landscape. We perform maintenance and renovation, plan and manage new building construction, and support the Redefine the Possible initiative by creating a dynamic physical environment for students, faculty, staff, and the community.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge

Working knowledge of the common terminology, methods, practices, tools and procedures related to building and facilities services, maintenance and repair, and a base knowledge of a building/construction or mechanical trade.

Abilities

Proficiency in performing a variety of semi‑skilled facilities maintenance and repair tasks; operation of applicable tools, equipment and systems; following standard written instructions and procedures; reading and writing at a level appropriate to the position; performing simple arithmetic calculations; and learning maintenance and repair functions. All positions require the performance of strenuous manual labor.

Experience

Six months of experience as a trades assistant or laborer, or six months of hands‑on experience in general facilities and systems maintenance and repair work.

Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to work outdoors and on rooftops conducting maintenance and repairs.
  • Knowledge and experience with remodel tear‑down and set‑up.
  • Experience making simple interior and exterior repairs of buildings and furniture.
  • Ability to maintain records and retrieve data using record‑keeping systems.
  • Ability to prepare standard reports.
  • Ability to evaluate and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and work cooperatively with a diverse campus population.
  • Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and community members.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and maintenance of a good driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to perform asbestos, lead, and mold abatement if given proper training.
  • Ability to pass appropriate OSFM certification exams for Fire Extinguisher inspections.
