Job summary

The Regents of the University of California on behalf of their Los Angeles Campus seeks a Facilities Worker to perform routine maintenance, alterations, and repairs in campus buildings and related facilities under supervision. You will assist journeypersons across trades and operate a range of power and hand tools to complete tasks.

Applicants should be able to work indoors and outdoors, lift up to 50 lbs, and comply with all safety procedures. Overtime and weekend work may be required.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Supervising Flooring Installer, Lead Flooring Installer, and/or Evening Shift Manager, perform routine maintenance, alter, and repair of campus buildings and related facilities involving one more of the various trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and hardware maintenance. Respond to trouble calls involving simple repair or replacement involving a wide variety of tasks. Assist skilled journeypersons of various trades with projects as needed. Operate, maintain, and make simple repairs on a variety of power or hand tools. Transport materials and personnel to and from job site, clean job site, return equipment, and follow all safety procedures. Follow all established safety procedures at all times. Upon completion of work, clean-up job site and return equipment, materials, and tools. Radios, pagers and Kronos wands to designated storage areas. As a member of the Super Asbestos Hit Team, participate in the removal of hazardous materials such as asbestos, mold, lead etc.

Salary & Compensation

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the routine maintenance, alteration, and repair of buildings, related facilities, equipment and fixtures in order to provide assistance to journeypersons in various trades. (Required)
• Ability to operate and maintain a variety of power and hand tools and equipment of the various trades; recognize problems, signs of deterioration to buildings, equipment and tools. (Required)
• Ability to: work as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues; work independently and follow through on assignments. (Required)
• Skill in writing simple English phrases using correct grammar and spelling to complete reports that are accurate and easy to comprehend. (Required)
• Working knowledge of standard safe work practices. (Required)
• Ability to stand, crawl, walk and stoop; push, pull and lift or lower object weighing up to 50 lbs. (Required)
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors, in wet or humid weather, and in fluctuating and/or extreme temperatures. (Required)
• Ability to work under adverse situation sand conditions. e.g. dirty, noisy, etc. (Required)
• Ability to work overtime and on weekends if needed. (Required)
• Working knowledge of appropriate safe procedures for removal of mercury, lead, mold, asbestos and other hazardous materials. (Preferred)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

• High School Diploma High school diploma or equivalent (Preferred)
• Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles. (Required)
• Certified in Approved Contractor/Supervisor/Competent Person Asbestos Removal training program and possession of Class I - IV Asbestos Work Qualification from Cal-Osha. (Preferred)

• Pre-Placement Physical: Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory physical examination.
