Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Facilities Technician, Mechanical for Starlink operations in Bastrop, TX. The role supports maintenance of HVAC, plumbing and mechanical systems across facilities and antennas, with a focus on reliability and safety in a high‑tech environment.

You will collaborate with engineers, managers and customers to prevent downtime, perform on‑site diagnostics and repairs, and ensure compliance with building codes and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical experience required.
  • Technical certification/journeyman/master in HVAC/mechanical/plumbing/electrical systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of high‑pressure gas, flammable gas and refrigeration gases.
  • HEPA filtration and AHU systems experience preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems to component level.
  • Familiar with commercial building codes and reading blueprints/schematics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint for service reports.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers, managers and customers to maintain systems with minimal downtime.
  • Maintain and repair HVAC support equipment (air handlers, chilled water, pumps, cooling towers).
  • Perform ductwork modifications, brazing, soldering, evacuations and refrigerant charging.
  • Assemble, install, repair and maintain pipes, heating and drainage systems.
  • Hands-on shop work and on-site inspection, troubleshooting and testing of pumps and mechanical equipment.
  • Ensure materials meet manufacturer specifications and read schematics for assembly and repair.
  • Present maintenance status information to internal and external customers.
  • Operate equipment including forklift, scissor lift, pallet jack and crane.
  • Open, track and resolve electronic work tickets; manage priorities with minimal guidance.
  • Follow site, local/state/federal building codes and regulations.

FACILITIES TECHNICIAN, MECHANICAL (STARLINK)

We provide reliable and fast internet to millions of users worldwide, including populations with little or no connectivity, rural communities, aircraft, watercraft, and places where existing services are unreliable, too expensive, or disconnected by natural disasters. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system, thousands of satellites and consumer antennae that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with engineers, managers, and customers to maintain systems in peak operating condition, and to develop/update detailed work instructions for proper equipment preventative maintenance dedicated to ensuring zero unplanned interruption in services to employees and customers
  • Maintain and repair HVAC support equipment on facilities systems including air handlers, chilled water, condenser pumps, cooling towers, valves, filters, etc.
  • Perform ductwork modifications, brazing, soldering, evacuation & charging of various refrigerants, water piping, insulation modifications and repairs
  • Assemble, install, repair, and maintain pipes, fittings, heating, water, and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes
  • Perform hands‑on shop work and/or on‑site disassembly, inspection, reporting, cleaning, troubleshooting, reassembly, and testing of pumps and other mechanical equipment
  • Ensure work and used materials are in compliance with manufacturer specifications
  • Read and interpret schematics for assembly, repair, and reassembly as required
  • Perform failure assessments and day‑to‑day safety inspections - making recommendations to the supervisor as required
  • Adjust and fabricate mechanical parts using hand and machine tools for mechanical repairs/upgrades
  • Present information on equipment maintenance statuses for all critical facilities as required for internal and external customers
  • Operate a forklift, scissor lift, pallet jack, boom lift, work truck, and overhead crane
  • Written and verbal communication skills, use of MS Outlook and Teams
  • Open, track and resolve electronic work tickets on the company systems
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed as well as determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance
  • Follow and ensure site compliance with all applicable the company, local, state, and federal building codes, regulations, and laws
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate
  • 3+ years of professional experience working with HVAC, plumbing, pneumatic, electrical, mechanical, or electrical systems
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Knowledge in the following areas: HVAC, plumbing, electrical safety, pneumatic principles, tubing, pipefittings, rotating machinery (pumps, air compressors, etc.), and a variety of mechanical fasteners
  • Technical certification, journeyman, or master in HVAC, Mechanical, Plumbing, or Electrical Systems
  • Knowledge of high‑pressure gas, flammable gas, and refrigeration gases
  • Professional experience maintaining high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters and standard air handling unit (AHU) filtration systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems down to the component level
  • Familiar with commercial building codes
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand technical language in specifications, schematics, and blueprints
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to generate service reports and communicate within the company including skills to navigate web‑based service literature and programs
  • Demonstrates a consistent record of punctual schedule adherence
  • Comfortable working in a high‑stress environment balancing several projects at any given time and the flexibility to adjust for abrupt changes in strategic direction
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Willing to work all shifts, overtime, and weekends as needed
  • Must be willing to train on 1st shift for initial 30 days (with potential to go up to 60 days) and work one of the followingAlternating Work Schedule shifts upon completion of training:
  • Schedule A: 5:00 AM – 5:30 PM (Sunday – Tuesday + every other Wednesday)
  • Schedule B: 5:00 AM – 5:30 PM (Thursday – Saturday + every other Wednesday)
  • Schedule C: 5:00 PM – 5:30 AM (Sunday – Tuesday + every other Wednesday)
  • Schedule D: 5:00 PM – 5:30 AM (Thursday – Saturday + every other Wednesday)
  • Schedule may vary depending on site operational needs and flexibility is required regarding overtime and weekend support
  • Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small opening and climbing hand over hand, lifting up to 25 lbs. unassisted, and working on ladders/lifts at elevated heights
  • Ability to work in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
  • Must be willing to work onsite, remote work not considered
