Description
Families in Transition/Housing Benefits is seeking an enthusiastic Facilities Technician to join our team in Manchester, NH. This role supports building operations by performing maintenance, repairs, and upkeep across properties, handling mechanical, plumbing, lighting, and general facility issues, completing custodial and landscaping tasks, responding to emergencies and system alarms, ensuring safety and compliance, and guiding junior staff while coordinating with vendors and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance across properties
- Repair and replace fixtures (screens, blinds, ceiling tiles, doors, furniture, etc.)
- Install items such as shelves, signs, and equipment
- Safely move furniture and equipment using proper techniques
- Maintain mechanical and plumbing systems (filters, belts, drains, basic repairs)
- Maintain lighting and alarm systems, including proper disposal of materials
- Perform landscaping tasks (snow removal, mowing, equipment operation)
- Perform general custodial work (cleaning, waste removal, transporting items)
- Respond to emergencies, weather conditions, and building safety needs
- Monitor and respond to system alarms
- Follow safety policies and address hazards or compliance issues
- Communicate facility issues and manage work orders
- Maintain clean, safe workspaces and equipment
- Supervise, train, and support junior facilities staff
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors on projects
- Complete other assigned duties
Schedule: Monday–Friday 7:30 am – 4:00 pm
Pay: $23–$25 per hour

Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Ability to travel to multiple locations
- Minimum 3 years of property maintenance experience (including unit turnovers)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team
- Skill in coaching and training others positively
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in both hot and cold environments
- Proficiency with hand and mechanical tools
- Ability to handle heavy workloads, stress, and interruptions
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; open to feedback
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and identify small defects
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills in maintenance tasks
- Ability to diagnose issues quickly and complete complex repairs
- Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills
- Experience working directly with customers or clients
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in affordable housing settings (1+ year)
- Experience operating a plow truck in residential areas
- Knowledge of HVAC and mechanical systems
