Job summary

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside is seeking a Facilities Technician I to maintain and repair campus facilities and grounds. This role supports basic mechanical repairs, custodial tasks and security functions, working independently and with others.

The position offers a Monday–Friday shift from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with a pay rate of $20 per hour. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications and pass a background check as part of UW-Parkside policies.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Acquire and maintain a valid Driver’s License within 3 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed.
  • Sets up and tears down equipment for institutional meetings and events.
  • Escalates and documents issues according to established policies and procedures.
  • Utilizes basic equipment to repair and maintain basic machinery, equipment, and facility property under close supervision to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation.
  • Assists with inventory and distribution of deliveries to appropriate entities under close supervision.
  • Assists with routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness.

Job Duties

Our Facilities Technician I workers provide maintenance, repairs and upkeep to the campus facilities and grounds. The position inspects, maintains, adjusts and repairs a wide variety of interior and exterior building components, furniture and equipment. The position provides support and assists with basic mechanical repairs and maintenance along with custodial, grounds and security functions. The position requires the ability to work independently and in conjunction and cooperation with others.

Key Job Responsibilities

Shift

Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Department

Facilities Management Department - a key part of the University that ensures the campus roads are clean, that utilities like water and electricity are operating effectively and efficiently, and that our campus is clean and beautiful. The work environment for this position is predominantly indoors. Exposure to dust, odors, moving mechanical parts and noise is common.

Compensation

$20/Hour

Required Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent GED
  • Acquire and maintain a valid Driver’s License within 3 months of hire date.
Physical Demands

Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolding and rooftop access stairs. Required to carry tools and parts often weighing 50 pounds or more. Use ropes and pulleys to hoist tools and parts to installation elevations. Service work involves crawling on, under and inside of air handling ducts which are often dirty and dusty. Worker must be able to utilize hand tools, power tools and equipment while maintaining a safe environment for yourself and others in the area. Proper and safe tool utilization requires dexterity and mobility of hands and arms. Long periods of standing, sitting, kneeling, walking and computer work are possible.
