Overview
At Houston Methodist, the Facilities Technician Assistant position is an entry-level position which is responsible for assisting facility personnel in the completion of tasks by performing various aspects of work associated with their shop/department for maintenance of Houston Methodist facilities. Under supervision, this position supports performing safety and preventative maintenance, inspections and assists in obtaining materials associated with their shop/department. The Facilities Technician Assistant position supports basic mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and painting repairs/requests as appropriate and under instruction from leadership.

Responsibilities
PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assists in inspections on a routine basis and identifies maintenance opportunities and escalates appropriately.
  • Retrieves repair parts, shop tools and other items as specified and assists with daily operations of the facility.
  • Seeks out additional information and reference materials, or guidance, to gain clarification to make effective repairs.
  • Assists with general maintenance repair and preventative maintenance inspections to include HVAC, electrical and plumbing, as appropriate, in compliance with codes, ordinances and statutes.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Receives daily work activities and maintains set timelines as determined by leadership to optimize response time.
  • Follows safety standards, policies and procedures established for the department and hospital and conducts all procedures accordingly. Maintains awareness of environment and uses great caution while navigating various work areas.
  • Uses tools and equipment to perform the job in an efficient, effective and safe manner.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assists with capturing accurate and complete documentation of work orders.
  • Maintains the use and care of commonly used equipment and tools; does not waste supplies. Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively, reducing incidental overtime, and complete daily assigned tasks.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assumes responsibility for growth and development by participating in in-services programs and continuing education. Completes and updates My Development Plan and discusses with management.
  • Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development as a technician.
