Job summary

Paycom - ATS is seeking a Fiber Optic Technician to implement, install, and maintain fiber cross connects, patch cables, and related infrastructure in a data center environment. The role requires coordinating with the senior facilities technician and documenting all work per DCS standards.

The ideal candidate has an 18+ month background in fiber optics or data center installs, with the ability to read diagrams, operate test equipment, and lift heavy components.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 18 months of related experience preferred; data center experience required.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and work in a data center environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all installation activities with the senior facilities technician.
  • Install, test, and document fiber installations per procedures.
  • Perform fiber testing per TIA 568-C and DCS procedures.
  • Maintain tools and calibration logs; ensure proper labeling of cables.
  • Provide on-call escalation for emergencies and remote data center support.
  • Travel to remote data centers as required.

Department: Managed ServicesReports to: Professional Services ManagerSummaryImplement, install, and maintain under close supervision fiber optic cross connects, patch cables and any related infrastructure in accordance with established customer procedures and policies. To ensure proper care, installation, and documentation of all fiber optic cabling within the data center environment. Adhere to DCS standards for customer facility installs. This position reports to the Professional Services Manager.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesCoordinates all installation activities with the senior facilities technician.Performs corrective actions as directed to resolve problems affecting the fiber related infrastructure.Install record and document fiber installations as required.Produce and affix labels appropriate for the cable/installation in accordance with diagrams, schematics and or drawings.Provide fiber testing per TIA 568-C and DCS’ Fiber Optic Testing Procedures.Perform quality control inspections on the DCS fiber network components received for stocking.Install and test fiber optic cabling, cross connects and associated patch panels under close supervision.Conducts inventory of fiber optic cabling, infrastructure, and installation materials.Maintains associated tools and test equipment and records calibration logs.Serves as on call escalation for emergency issues and technical support as needed.Conducts cable mining activities with assigned areas as directed.Maintains cable identification label database.Maintains working space in a professional manner.Maintains familiarity and enforces all workplace safety requirements.Other duties as assigned.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A minimum of (18) eighteen months of related experience and/or training preferred. Experience within a data center is a must.Other Skills and AbilitiesAbility to use various computer office software.Must possess the ability to read, understand and speak fluent English and comprehend manufacture’s manuals for use and operations of electronic equipment, software, and products.Operates highly specialized test equipment.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers.Working ConditionsWorking conditions are normal for a data center environment.
