North Las Vegas, City of (NV) is seeking a Facilities Technician to install, maintain, and repair heating, boilers, HVAC, and related systems across municipal facilities.

The role requires a high school diploma, technical training, and 5+ years of facility maintenance experience in electrical, plumbing, and HVAC, with applicable certifications within a year. 4‑day work week, 9 hours per day, in a city department setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational/technical training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing preferred.
  • Completion of apprenticeship or a building trades certificate is preferred.
  • Five+ years of progressively responsible facility maintenance experience in electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
  • Equivalency: Eight years of relevant experience may substitute for education/experience.
  • EPA Refrigerant Handling Certification required at hire; respirator certification within six months.
  • NEC and F card certifications within a year; valid driver’s license and DMV record required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, boilers, air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems.
  • Perform skilled work in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting trades.
  • Supervise subordinate crew members as needed.
  • Follow safety and environmental regulations during maintenance activities.

Job Description Summary

Performs skilled work of considerable difficulty in the installation, maintenance, and repair of a variety of heating, boilers, air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment and associated systems. Performs skilled work in other building maintenance skilled trades of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting. Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in building maintenance duties using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and related equipment. Performs at a journey level in all of the skilled trade areas of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. Performs semi-skilled repairs in the areas of locksmith, carpentry, painting, roof repair, as well as various other trades. May supervise subordinate crew members.

Job Description

Applicants using foreign education to meet minimum qualifications must provide a U.S. equivalency evaluation from a current NACES or AICE member. Applicants are responsible for all associated costs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Additional vocational or technical training in air conditioning, electrical, and plumbing trades.
  • Prefer completion of apprenticeship in one of the building trades or completion of a building trades certificate from a community college or applicable military certifications.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience performing facility maintenance work in the specialty areas of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
  • Equivalency: Eight years of progressively responsible experience performing repairs and installation of HVAC/refrigeration, electrical, and plumbing may be substituted for the education and experience required above.
  • EPA Refrigerant Handling Certification at time of hire/reclassification.
  • Respirator certification within six months of hire/reclassification.
  • Sixteen hours O & M asbestos training required within six months of hire/reclassification and annually thereafter.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record and ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.
  • Must obtain a Clark County NEC certification within a year of hire date.
  • Must obtain an F card certification within a year of hire date.
Additional Job Description

Internal Notice for Teamster Team Members: This posting will create a non-probationary internal Teamster eligibility list and fill 2 vacancies for this classification. The current vacancy is in the Public Works department. The internal Teamster eligibility list will be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification, for up to one hundred and eighty (180) days. Non-probationary Teamster team members successfully completing the selection process will be placed on the internal Teamster eligibility list. All other team members including part-time/temporary employees along with external candidates may apply for this recruitment. These individuals may be considered after the appropriate recruitment process of the collective bargaining agreement has been followed. If the vacancy is not filled through promotion by a full-time non-probationary Teamster team member, the next opportunity for placement will be to hire qualified part-time/temporary employees and external candidates.

Work Schedule:

Monday through Thursday, 8:00am to 6:00pm. This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day (36-hour work week).

Environment

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee may regularly be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, work in high precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes or air borne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibrating machinery and equipment.

The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include

Written Exam - Passing Score of 70% or higher to proceed to the Oral Panel Interview.

Oral Panel Interview - Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%

Pre-Employment Screening - Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.

Selection/Offers

Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.
