Job summary

The Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority (SNVRHA) is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to join our team of 200+ professionals supporting affordable housing. This full-time role covers HVAC, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting and general facility work across sites, with non-supervisory responsibilities and travel between locations as needed.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair facilities, equipment, and buildings through carpentry, electrical, plumbing, heating, air-conditioning, and related repair work.
  • Install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot gas, electric heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and evaporative cooling systems, including controls, filters, and motors.
  • Install, maintain, repair, and replace plumbing components such as water lines, pipes, fixtures, and heating elements.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, including fixtures, circuits, breakers, switches, and lighting.
  • Perform carpentry duties such as installing, remodeling, and repairing cabinets, walls, windows, doors, and related trim.
  • Maintain and repair appliances including ranges, stoves, refrigerators, and dishwashers.
  • Install and maintain door hardware, locks, and related components; re-key cylinders and maintain lock records.
  • Install, maintain, and replace tile, carpet, metal carpet strips, and various floor coverings, as well as roofing materials.
  • Install, maintain, and repair plaster, drywall, and plaster walls, along with painting and surface finishing.
  • Inspect properties daily, removing debris, cleaning, and ensuring curb appeal.
  • Travel between sites as needed and maintain records and logs.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair machine tools such as power saws, drills, welders, generators, and Freon recovery machines.
  • Inspect building equipment, appliances, and fixtures to identify repairs or preventive needs.
  • Read and interpret sketches, diagrams, drawings, and blueprints.

Overview

The Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority (SNVRHA) is recruiting a Maintenance Mechanic to join our team of more than 200 professionals who support affordable housing for low- and moderate-income households. We offer a full-time schedule (Monday‑Thursday, 7:00 AM‑6:00 PM), 2 weeks vacation in years 1 and 2, 13 sick days, 13 paid holidays (including birthday), and a comprehensive benefits package. The position opens to both internal and external applicants and is funded by the federal government.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic ensures building physical condition meets agency standards and responds to resident maintenance requests. The role involves skilled work in heating, ventilation, and air‑conditioning (HVAC), carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, and general facility construction, without supervisory duties.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is eligible to participate in the collective bargaining unit represented by SEIU.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, training, and experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience in residential building or facilities maintenance.
  • Hands‑on experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, heating, and cooling.
  • Excellent communication, problem‑solving, crisis management, time management, and organizational skills.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Valid Nevada driver’s license or ability to obtain one.
  • HVAC certification required; EPA Universal Type I and II required.
  • OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 preferred.

Physical ability:

This role requires continuous talking or hearing; walking; reaching; standing; climbing; gripping; stooping; kneeling; crouching; and lifting up to 50 pounds.
