Feeding San Diego is a non-profit organization on a mission to connect every person facing hunger with nutritious meals by maximizing food rescue. Established in 2007, Feeding San Diego rescues surplus food from local and national food donors before it goes to waste and gets it to people facing hunger in San Diego County. It is the only Feeding America partner food bank in the region.

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Team Member maintains the integrity of Feeding San Diego's (FSD) buildings thereby assuring a safe and clean work environment. This is accomplished by performing general maintenance/cleaning tasks and other duties necessary for the general upkeep of the facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities are those considered to be essential but do not represent all the job functions that may be required to be performed by this position. Other comparable duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed. Occasional evening or weekend work is required as a condition of employment.

  • Performs basic construction and maintenance tasks in the warehouses and office areas.
  • Perform cleaning tasks based on daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly schedule.
  • Respond to requests from employees to perform maintenance tasks.
  • Travels to various stores to buy necessary supplies for facility tasks
  • Identifies potential safety hazards and create work orders
  • Recycling and waste duties, when needed.
  • Use a forklift/pallet jack to organize yard, as needed.
  • Run cardboard bailer and sort pallets on an as-needed basis.
  • Use a mobile elevated work platform to clean and maintain areas that are elevated (e.g., racking, lights)
  • Operations cross-departmental work as needed.
  • Other duties as needed.

INTERACTION

This position will interact closely with Operations teams. The position also requires frequent interaction with all FSD staff and volunteers of our community.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/YEARS EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working in a warehouse environment
  • Experience performing janitorial and other general cleaning tasks
  • Experience performing general maintenance tasks

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively; follow through on tasks with minimal supervision
  • Passion for and commitment to Feeding San Diego's mission to alleviate hunger and food insecurity

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Personal computer, copier, and printer.

Electric pallet jack, forklift, manual pallet jack, dolly, computer, multi-line phone, copier, printer

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Must have reliable transportation and possess and maintain a valid California driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, including proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage and insurability under the Agency's insurance carrier standards.

Must be able to obtain and keep a forklift, mobile elevated work platform and electric pallet jack certification. Training will be provided.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee will be asked to successfully perform to fulfill the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly expected to:

  • Perform work in a warehouse, which may occasionally create exposure to dust and pollen.
  • Perform work in a cooler and freezer.
  • Remain in a stationary position for extended periods, walk, bend at the waist and knees, kneel, and use hands, arms and legs for dexterity
  • Regularly lift, carry, and balance objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Pull and push such objects as file drawers and supplies.
  • The noise level in the work environment varies and can be considered moderate.

$19 - $21 per hour, Part-Time

FSD Onsite, 9:30am - 4pm, Tuesday - Friday
