Job summary

The Maryland Food Bank (MFB) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to feeding people and strengthening communities across Maryland. The Facilities Specialist keeps our warehouses and grounds clean, safe, and well-maintained, performing custodial tasks, minor repairs, and event setup in support of programs serving families in need.

Responsibilities include operating floor equipment, following sanitation schedules, and assisting with safety and security practices.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1–2 years of facilities, custodial, or related experience.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Commitment to workplace and food safety.

Responsibilities

  • Perform custodial and sanitation duties throughout warehouse facilities, equipment, and grounds to maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment.
  • Follow established sanitation and safety schedules, ensuring all cleaning and maintenance tasks are completed accurately and on time.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain equipment such as floor scrubbers, forklifts, power equipment, and hand tools in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Use cleaning chemicals, supplies, and materials safely and effectively while adhering to organizational procedures and safety standards.
  • Assist with facility upkeep by moving furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools as needed to support daily operations and special projects.
  • Remove snow, ice, debris, and other hazards from sidewalks, stairs, and designated exterior areas surrounding Food Bank facilities.
  • Support pest control efforts and help identify and report facility concerns that may impact cleanliness, safety, or operations.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment by following safety protocols and reporting hazards, damages, or security issues.
  • Set up and break down equipment, furniture, and materials for Food Bank programs, meetings, special events, and community activities.
