Job summary

The Canaveral Port Authority is seeking an Electrician with strong maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair skills for facilities across Port properties in Cape Canaveral, FL. The role requires working weekends and readiness to operate within maritime safety standards.

You will interpret electrical drawings, install and service motors, VFDs, and lighting, and document activities in the maintenance system. A valid GED/high school diploma and 7+ years of experience are expected.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of 7 years hands-on electrician/mechanic experience, preferably in commercial/industrial settings.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Team player who can perform in a fast-paced environment, flexible and a self-starter.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
  • Must have basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform major and minor electrical maintenance, repairs, and diagnosis across Port facilities.
  • Troubleshoot and replace electrical equipment including motors, VFDs, transformers, and lighting systems.
  • Ensure high safety standards with OSHA compliance, particularly in a maritime environment.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and schematics related to buildings and utilities.
  • Complete work orders in the Maintenance Management System to document repairs and maintenance.
  • Operate power tools and equipment used in electrical, construction repair, and installation tasks.
  • Support emergency conditions as essential personnel and participate in recall or recovery operations if needed.

Job Summary

This Electrician position is responsible for performing major and minor electrical maintenance, preventative maintenance, repairs, replacements, diagnosis, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and equipment throughout Port property. The position reports directly to the Facilities Manager, supports all Canaveral Port Authority (CPA) owned facilities, and requires the ability to work weekends.

Essential Functions

  • Must possess advanced working knowledge, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of all aspects of Electrical Maintenance and Equipment including but not limited to Motors, Controllers. VFD's, Transformers, Lighting, Power Distribution, and Commercial type equipment.
  • High Safety awareness, compliance, and knowledge of OSHA requirements preferably in a Maritime environment.
  • Usage, reference, and adherence to latest National Electrical Code.
  • Safely workwith electrical equipment of voltages 480 VAC and lower with the use of multiple types of electrical meters.
  • Highly skilled in a variety of disciplines with a mechanical aptitude in order to replace equipment or devices in the field.
  • Ability to test, troubleshoot, and replace Electrical Switchgear and all types of Power Distribution type Equipment.
  • Electrical construction skills including conduit pipe threading, installing raceways, pulling wire, splicing, installing switch gear and panels or disconnects, and terminatingalldevices properly.
  • Repair, troubleshoot, or replaceall types of motors including testing and repair ofVFD's and motor controls.
  • Complete work orders and forms using a Maintenance Management Work Order System to ensure all documents regarding repairs/maintenance are complete.
  • Highly competent working on lighting systems, including LED lighting systems. including diagnosing, repair and replacement of all parts associated with lighting.
  • Read and interpret electrical and other Drawings, Blueprints, Sketches and Schematics as they relate to buildings, equipment, and utilities services systems.
  • Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment for unsafe and malfunctioning conditions.
  • Apply methods, practices, and procedures in preventative maintenance, inspection, repair, renovation, and construction of buildings and utilities.
  • Safely operate all power tools and equipment utilized in electrical, construction repair, installation of electro- mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of computers is necessary to control automated systems and emails, work orders and work order systems.
  • Safelyoperate CPA vehicles including vans, trucks, high reach boom lifts, scissor lifts, forklifts, large trucks with trailers, and other large construction related equipment.
  • During emergency conditions, all CPA employees are automatically considered essential employees and may be subject to recall. These events may include, but are not limited to, natural, man-made, or public health emergencies. Employees may be expected to perform emergency and/or recovery operations outside of their normal assigned responsibilities and normal routine working hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of 7 years hands on experience working as an electrician-mechanic, preferably in a commercial/industrial application with a solid background in job history.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Must be a team player able to perform in a fast-paced environment, be flexible and a self starter.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
  • Must have basic computer skills

Licenses / Certification Required:

  • Possess a valid Florida Driver’s Licenseor the ability to obtain one within 30 days
  • Journeyman or Masters' Certification Preferred.

Physical Requirement

  • Ability to perform physical aspects of the job such as lifting and handling 70 pounds.
  • Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials. (50-70 pounds)
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment used in the maintenance/construction industry (scissor lift, boom lift, forklift, front end loader, skid steer loader, jackhammer, etc.)
  • Work in various adverse conditions such as tight or enclosed spaces, heights, indoors or outdoors to complete work assignments.
  • Tasks are performed in indoor andoutdoor environments. Due to the nature and location of the work environment, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements, e.g., heat, humidity, inclement weather.
  • Some tasks include working in and around moving vehicles and associated vehicle/equipment areas, where heightened awareness of surroundings and observance of established safety precautions is essential in avoidance of injury or accidents.
