Job summary

Scottsdale Unified School District is seeking an entry-level Facilities Services worker. This role involves custodial tasks, basic maintenance, ground care, and assisting with room setups.

You may operate light equipment and perform simple repairs under supervision. Ideal candidates have a High School Diploma or GED, a valid Arizona driver’s license, and the ability to perform physical labor, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in a school environment.

Responsibilities

• Performs manual labor: emptying trash, gathering materials, setting up furniture, cleaning, painting, and related tasks.
• Responds to internal customer requests and emergencies to ensure safety of students and staff.
• Maintains facilities, vehicles, and equipment; performs simple repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Notifies supervisors of required facility or equipment repairs.
• Under direction, performs routine minor repairs.
• Assists in grounds maintenance: trash pickup, sweeping walkways, weed control.
• Performs other duties of similar nature or level.

Duties might include: picking up trash and debris, mowing the grass; performing building maintenance such as changing light bulbs; vacuuming; cleaning and maintaining restrooms; and, performing general laborer type work such as moving furniture and room set-up. Incumbents may also operate light equipment such as vehicles, tractors, and mowers.

Position Objective

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

• Performs manual labor activities, which includes: emptying trash cans; gathering materials and equipment; placing materials and/or equipment in proper locations; sweeping; setting up furniture and/or equipment; digging; cleaning; moving furnishings; painting; and/or, performing other related tasks.
• Assists and responds to internal customer requests for assistance, inquiries, and/or other related requests; and responds to emergency situations as required to ensure the safety of students and staff.
• Maintains facilities, vehicles, and/or equipment utilized in daily activities; troubleshoots, maintains and performs simple repairs and preventive maintenance to equipment; monitors inventory of supplies.
• Notifies appropriate individuals of required facility and/or equipment repairs.
• Under direction, performs routine, minor repairs.
• Assists in performing routine grounds maintenance activities, including picking up trash, sweeping walkways, and weeding planter areas.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: (positions in this class typically require):

High School Diploma or G.E.D.; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and intense noises.
