Job summary

Scottsdale Unified School District is seeking an entry-level Custodian to join our facilities services team. You will perform basic custodial, grounds maintenance, and general labor tasks to keep school buildings safe and clean.

Responsibilities include trash collection, light maintenance, restroom cleaning, and assisting in room setups. A valid Arizona driver’s license is required; training will be provided on equipment operation and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; some related work experience helpful.
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Willingness to perform physical labor and operate basic equipment safely.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine custodial, grounds maintenance, and general labor tasks.
• Assists with building maintenance such as cleaning restrooms, vacuuming, and light bulb changes.
• Cares for cleaning supplies, notifies supervisors of repairs needed.
• Assists in setup of rooms and events and moves furniture as required.
• Operates light equipment (vehicles, mowers) in accordance with safety procedures.

Duties might include: picking up trash and debris, mowing the grass; performing building maintenance such as changing light bulbs; vacuuming; cleaning and maintaining restrooms; and, performing general laborer type work such as moving furniture and room set-up. Incumbents may also operate light equipment such as vehicles, tractors, and mowers.

Position Objective

This is the entry level into the facilities services series. Incumbents perform basic custodial, building or grounds maintenance, or general laborer work. Duties might include: picking up trash and debris, mowing the grass; performing building maintenance such as changing light bulbs; vacuuming; cleaning and maintaining restrooms; and, performing general laborer type work such as moving furniture and room set-up. Incumbents may also operate light equipment such as vehicles, tractors, and mowers.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs manual labor activities, which includes: emptying trash cans; gathering materials and equipment; placing materials and/or equipment in proper locations; sweeping; setting up furniture and/or equipment; digging; cleaning; moving furnishings; painting; and/or, performing other related tasks.
• Assists and responds to internal customer requests for assistance, inquiries, and/or other related requests; and responds to emergency situations as required to ensure the safety of students and staff.
• Maintains facilities, vehicles, and/or equipment utilized in daily activities; troubleshoots, maintains and performs simple repairs and preventive maintenance to equipment; monitors inventory of supplies.
• Notifies appropriate individuals of required facility and/or equipment repairs.
• Under direction, performs routine, minor repairs.
• Assists in performing routine grounds maintenance activities, including picking up trash, sweeping walkways, and weeding planter areas.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or G.E.D.; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

• Valid Arizona Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and intense noises.
