Facilities/Purchasing Supervisor

Hospice of Southern Illinois is a not-for-profit, free-standing, community-based hospice offering Southern Illinois and St. Louis Metro-East communities a range of services for people of all ages at the end of life. We have been providing compassionate care to terminally ill patients and their families in their home or a home-like setting since 1981. We are currently hiring for the Facilities/Purchasing Supervisor position that would be based out of our Belleville, IL office.

Summary of the Facilities/Purchasing Supervisor Position
  • Position Summary: The Facilities/Purchasing Supervisor is responsible for ordering, maintaining and distribution of all supplies and equipment for patients and staff. The Facilities/Purchasing Supervisor is also responsible for management of facility building, grounds, and equipment.
  • To be considered for the position: prior experience in facility management and maintenance skills (such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.) are required. Purchasing is only about 25% of the position.
  • Pay: $64,480.00 Annually. Full-Time Salaried Exempt Position.
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. with the possibility of some evening and weekend calls regarding maintenance emergencies or issues.
  • Location: Will work at the Hospice of Southern Illinois Administration Building located at 305 South Illinois Street, Belleville, IL 62220. This is not a remote position. Will also need to periodically visit the Patient Services Building located at 204 North Halfway Road, Marion, IL 62959.

Position Requirements

a. Education

  • Graduate from an accredited high school

b. Experience

  • Prior experience in facility management required.
  • Prior experience in purchasing preferred.

  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Accurate and neat with paperwork.
  • Ability to access organizational supply needs and make appropriate orders.
Physical Requirements

Performs repetitive tasks. Prolonged periods of sitting and standing. Requires clarity of vision at >20 inches and <20 feet. Manual dexterity (eye/hand coordination). Hears alarm and telephone. Bending at waist and knee frequently. Required lifting up to 60 pounds occasionally.

Working Conditions

The Facilities/Purchasing Supervisor spends approximately 90% of time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposure to excessive humidity and noise. The remaining 10% of time is spent in various non-air-conditioned climates with varying exposure to humidity and noise.

Essential Functions of the Facilities/Purchasing Supervisor Position
  • Oversee and coordinate building maintenance, repairs, and upkeep.
  • Ensure facility is clean and maintained according to company policy and procedures.
  • Manage and schedule routine inspections and maintenance tasks. Troubleshoot problems related to mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems. Oversee and coordinate new construction projects.
  • Identify needs and costs for future repairs and upgrades.
  • Identify environmental risk regarding facilities operations and maintenance. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Select, coordinate, and manage relationships with vendors and contractors. Negotiate contracts.
  • Monitor and report on operational expenses.
  • Order and distribute office supplies and equipment in a timely manner.
  • Prioritize, manage time efficiently and multitask.
  • Process purchase orders and invoices in a timely manner.
  • Know collection and disposal processes for filled sharp containers per OSHA guidelines.
  • Anticipate medical supply needs for timely delivery of adequate inventory at all locations.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate employees at multiple locations.
  • Collaborate with leadership on space allocations and utilization. Manage renovations and upgrades.
  • Knowledge of code compliance in each municipality where facilities are located.
  • Know safety processes and procedures. Ensure facilities and grounds are safe, secure, and compliant with safety regulations.
  • Implement emergency preparedness plan in the event of organizational emergencies.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings.
  • Forecast and maintain organizational facilities operations, maintenance, and repair budgets in addition to office and medical supply budgets.
  • Ensure organizational fleet vehicles are maintained appropriately.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships and communication skills.
  • Support Hospice of Southern Illinois’ core values.
  • Appropriately manage Paid Time Off. Submit requests for time off per the Employee Handbook and Benefits Manual.
