Job summary

The ACLU is seeking a Facilities Project Manager for the Business Operations and Support Services department in Washington, DC. This full-time, hybrid role reports to the Director of Facilities and will oversee renovation and construction projects for ACLUs facilities, including the National Headquarters in New York City.

Responsibilities include managing vendors, budgets, and schedules, coordinating with design and construction teams, and ensuring compliance and effective workplace operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead renovation and construction projects for ACLUs owned buildings in DC and HQ in NYC and satellite offices.
  • Manage vendors, architects, engineers, and contractors; oversee contracts and change orders.
  • Develop and track project budgets; ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget.
  • Coordinate with senior staff to define program needs and communicate with consultants.
  • Support risk management, change management strategies, and stakeholder communications.
  • Occasional travel as needed; work in a hybrid model with in-office days.

ABOUT THE JOB

The ACLU seeks applicants for the full‑time position of Facilities Project Manager in the Business Operations and Support Services (BOSS) Department of the ACLU’s National office in Washington, D.C. This is a hybrid role that has minimum in‑office requirements of three (3) days per week or twelve (12) days per month. This is a two‑year term-limited position.

The Business Operations and Support Services department, in the office of the Chief Operating Officer, works to enable organizational and operational effectiveness by partnering with ACLU staff across the enterprise to develop the business solutions, training, support, physical space planning, and evaluation resources needed to maximize resources and achieve the organization’s strategic goals.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the Facilities Project Manager will lead renovation and construction projects of the ACLU’s owned building in Washington, DC and the National Headquarters in New York City. The Facilities Project Manager will lead and manage other design and construction projects in the ACLU’s satellite offices to support the organization’s needs for effective workplace operations. The Facilities Construction Project Manager will also assist in establishing the aesthetic representation of the ACLU’s mission and vision and interpreting/communicating this between the organization and its consultants. This position will be based out of the Washington, DC office. This is a 2-year term position.

YOUR DAY TO DAY
  • Manage and oversee renovation and construction projects in ACLUNationalfacilities.
  • Coordinate withSeniorACLU staff inestablishinga program andinterface witharchitects todeterminefutureoptimalspace usagedesign.
  • Manage selection of vendors associated with design and construction projects. Including preperation and evaluation of requests for proposals for consultants, general contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate the activities of consultants, including Architects, Engineers, and Expeditors to ensure projects are programmed, designed,permittedand bid appropriately
  • Coordinate the activities of construction managers and contractors to ensure that projects are bid,contractedand delivered as designed, on schedule and on budget
  • Develop,estimateand track project budgets, takingappropriate actionwhen necessary to ensure adherence to budgetary limitations as well as to ensure projects stay on budget
  • Assistlegalteam in negotiating contracts and setting business terms with vendors and consultants for such contracts.
  • Administrate all Contracts, Purchase Orders, Change Orders, Requisitions and Payments
  • Develop andmaintainproject status reports providing management and leadership with project status and finance reports.
  • Act as a liaison between staff, leadership,vendorsand other project stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage communication and change management strategies.
  • Manage project risks anddeterminesolutions and mitigation strategies.
  • Willingness to travel, as needed.

COMPENSATION

The ACLU is committed to equity, transparency, and clarity in pay. Consistent with our compensation philosophy, there is a set salary for each role based on geographic work location. The annual salary for this position is $128,294.00 (Level G), reflecting the salary of a position based in New York, NY. Salaries are subject to a regional pay adjustment if authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
