Job summary

Duke Clinical Research Institute in Durham, NC seeks an Assistant Director of Project Management to oversee planning, design, and construction of smaller capital projects within the Facilities Management Department, and to support Project Managers on larger initiatives.

You will coordinate with designers, engineers, legal, and campus stakeholders, manage budgets and schedules, review contracts, and ensure safe, compliant project delivery across University facilities.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Facilities Management.
• Ten years of experience in Facilities Management or a related field, with progressive leadership.
• Experience in a higher education or similar setting preferred.
• Professional license and master’s degree in a related field preferred.
• Experience with university facilities and coordinating multiple stakeholder groups is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate planning, design, and construction of assigned smaller or less‑complex projects with university entities and clients, while assisting Project Managers on larger projects.
• Meet with clients to determine capital project requirements, document priorities, and assist in funding, location, and scheduling.
• Develop capital approval submissions for presentation to University leadership and assist/manage the Project Committee for each project.
• Ensure adherence to departmental processes and procedures through approvals.
• Review designer proposals and ensure quality design documents meet contract deliverables and reflect project intent.
• Monitor construction quality and ensure code compliance and safety on site.
• Coordinate project progress meetings, issue monthly status and financial reports, and update progress schedules.
