Job Overview

This position requires a journeyman-level skilled tradesperson in industrial or commercial crafts such as Plumbing, Mechanical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, or Electronics/Fire Alarms. The role involves maintenance and repair of heavy commercial building infrastructure and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or recognized equivalent.
  • One journeyman-level craft/trade approved by Property Services Leadership, demonstrated by one of the following:
  • Texas state license or equivalent with two years of experience.
  • Recognized apprentice program or trade school with two years of experience.
  • Community college certification or associate degree with two years of experience.
  • NCCER training or other UTMB-approved certification with two years of experience.

Alternatively, eight years of industrial/heavy commercial experience in at least one craft can substitute for licensure/certification/degree, with validation via references.

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to perform essential functions in a post-offer employment test, be capable of lifting up to 100 lbs, and perform frequent bending, standing, and walking.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Stationary Engineer License
  • Experience in Central Plant Operations and Facilities
Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively maintain assigned areas.
  • Consult with customers, prioritize work, and own customer issues and equipment breakdowns.
  • Perform detailed inspections, report issues, and perform major repairs.
  • Start up, shut down, and adjust equipment per safety procedures.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Identify needs and perform proactive repairs.
  • Train and mentor new personnel and interpret blueprints.
  • Participate in project design, reviews, shutdowns, and inspections.
  • Support 24/7 operations, including on-call duties and after-hours work.
  • Participate in disaster preparedness and complete required compliance training.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and report hazards.
Work Environment

Work in hospital, clinical, laboratory, and office environments, with potential exposure to hazards, weather, and physical risks. Must be able to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and in high locations.

Other Requirements

This position may be security sensitive and require a Department of Justice security clearance.

Additional Details
  • Salary is commensurate with experience.
  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday, with possible extended hours or rotating shifts.
