Job summary

Washington County is seeking an HVAC/R & Plumbing Supervisor to oversee building automation, HVAC/R equipment, and plumbing infrastructure across facilities. You will lead HVAC and plumbing teams, manage budgets, and oversee contracts for services while contributing to large-scale capital projects involving mechanical system upgrades.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, 4 years of journey-level HVAC/DDC/BAS experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity, and EPA Section

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma/GED; AND Four (4) years of journey-level experience as an HVAC and/or DDC/BAS technician and which include a minimum of two (2) years lead or supervisory experience.
  • EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (Universal) required.
  • May require valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per county policy.
  • Pass a Washington County criminal background check and maintain access to all spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee operation, maintenance, and optimization of building automation systems and HVAC/R equipment across county facilities.
  • Lead and direct a team of HVAC and plumbing professionals; manage budgets and resources.
  • Coordinate and oversee contracts for related services; contribute to large capital improvement projects.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for mechanical systems.

About the Opportunity

The HVAC/R & Plumbing Supervisor oversees the operation, maintenance, and optimization of building automation systems and HVAC/R equipment, ensuring effective control of heating, cooling, and plumbing infrastructure throughout Washington County facilities. This role leads and directs a team of HVAC and plumbing professionals, manages budgets and resources, and handles contract oversight for related services. The supervisor also coordinates and contributes to large-scale capital improvement projects involving the replacement and enhancement of mechanical systems.

Ideal Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Proper methods, procedures, tools, and equipment used in heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment as well as plumbing, mechanical, and electrical trades.
  • Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Manipulate DDC systems for large facilities and systems to include: chillers, boilers, hydronic loops, air handlers, fan coils, commissioning, etc.
  • Operate, repair, and maintain a variety of complex electrical/plumbing/mechanical systems and equipment including heating ventilation, and air conditioning systems, air compressors, security alarm systems, switches, lighting systems, security systems, and fire alarm equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions and approaches to problems.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs.
  • Utilize various software and computerized tools, including Word, Excel, Outlook.

Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience

A high school diploma/GED; AND Four (4) years of journey-level experience as an HVAC and/or DDC/BAS technician and which include a minimum of two (2) years lead or supervisory experience. Additional Requirements EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (Universal). Some positions may be required to possess a valid driver's and have an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy. Must pass a WCSO criminal Background check and maintain access to all spaces. May be required to report to work during off-duty hours for emergency situations.

Washington County Facilities, Fleet, & Parks Department is responsible for the maintenance and operation of approximately 38 owned and leased sites encompassing 1.9 million sq ft of commercial type building environments.
