Job summary

TSMC in Phoenix, AZ is seeking experienced Facility Mechanical Technicians to join our growing team. You will operate, maintain, and troubleshoot HVAC systems, supporting critical semiconductor manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities include keeping chillers, boilers, pumps, and cleanroom air handling in specs, performing routine rounds, and responding to abnormal conditions. The role may include Emergency Response Team duties with a monthly premium.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting HVAC systems including Chillers, boilers, pumping systems, cleanroom air handling, filtration as well as Industrial exhaust and air pollution control devices including scrubbers and RCTO technology. The Mechanical Technician must accurately and reliably follow standard operating procedures for maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.

  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe workplace
  • Starts automatic feed of solid and liquid materials through equipment units, including heating and cooling vessels, mixing tanks, ion exchange beds, and filter presses
  • Operates and controls pumping, cooling, heating, air deliver and associated systems to meet specifications within a wafer fabrication facility.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on rotating equipment including pumps and fans
  • Observes gauges, signals, and recording instruments, turns valves, and moves controls to regulate temperatures, pressures, and flow of heating water, coolant, and chemical constituents through system to effect prescribed reaction within critical limits
  • Performs diagnostic and troubleshooting practices to determine root cause and corrective actions needed to maintain systems operation within specifications
  • Performs emergency and corrective maintenance actions to repair damaged equipment or correct out of specification conditions
  • Performs daily rounds and readings to look, listen and feel for abnormal conditions not observed on SCADA.
  • Ensures processing conditions and process output are within regulatory limits. Responsible for correcting conditions and alerting management of discrepancies
  • Ensure all requirements as specified by the manufacturer of equipment systems are met, and equipment operations, repairs, modifications, and maintenance meet environmental protection requirements
  • Additional duties based on business needs, including ERT
  • If hired for this position, you may be required to participate in and perform Emergency Response Team (ERT) duties as an essential part of the role. These duties may include responding to F21 incidents, such as medical emergencies, chemical spills, fire response, or addressing any other disruptions to business operations. If you are selected by your manager to become a part of ERT, participation is mandatory and additional compensation will be provided for performing these critical responsibilities in the form of a monthly premium.
Knowledge And Personal Skills

The Mechanical Technician must have knowledge of industry standards, codes and regulations, and the ability to apply to maintenance operation of site Mechanical systems.

  • Follow all safety policies and procedures at all times
  • Fundamental understanding of Chillers, boilers, cleanroom temperature/RH/particulates as well as air abatement and automation.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other technicians, supervisors, engineers, and managers
  • Team building, Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Sound decision making skills
  • Effective written, verbal, presentation, and listening communications skills
  • Computer skills including the ability to operate Corporate email, spreadsheets, word processing, engineering drawing databases at a highly proficient level

  • Willingness and ability to work overtime when needed for business purposes, or to be called-in to work in the event of emergency or business needs.
  • Contributes recommendations and suggestion for work method improvements, safety, materials, and tools.
  • The Mechanical Technician must have an appropriate focus on personal, process, and work force safety.
  • Attributes should include honesty, trustworthiness, respect for others, flexibility, and sound workplace ethics
  • Duties will include any and all other directions of supervision that can safely be performed by the incumbent.
Experience, Education, And Training
  • High School graduation or GED is required
  • Technical College or Trade Program is preferred
  • Previous knowledge in operation of industrial and/or commercial processing equipment
  • Five years’ experience with process piping systems, working in an industrial setting are highly preferred
  • Competency in basic mathematic skills including fractions, addition, subtraction, division
Physical Requirements

The Mechanical Technician may spend extended hours working inside and outside in all weather conditions, and in awkward body positions which can cause physical discomfort and strain.

Required to regularly lift up to 50 lbs and to adjust heavy objects.

This position will come in contact with sharp, hot, and cold equipment, and parts.

Must be medically qualified to wear a personal respirator.

Sensory demands include exposure to the smells associated with industrial chemical operations, exposure to the sounds associated with powered tools and industrial equipment.

Must have the ability to safely climb ladders, and work at elevation from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, roofs, or platforms, and the ability to work in confined spaces.
