Job summary

RTX is seeking a Facilities Manager, Mechanical Design for Andover, MA, to lead engineering projects on boilers, refrigeration, cooling skids, and chillers, and to manage mechanical system design from design through construction close-out.

The role requires 8+ years in building mechanical engineering and a relevant bachelor’s degree, plus strong project management and technical writing skills. Expect regional travel within New England.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in building mechanical engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or industrial engineering or related discipline.
• Experience with construction project management including scoping meetings, budget monitoring, scheduling, contractor coordination, commissioning, and close-out.
• Experience writing clear technical engineering specifications, reports and operating procedures.

Responsibilities

• Complete engineering projects including mechanical building systems troubleshooting and support of building control systems.
• Support projects from design, through the bid cycle, construction project management, and close-out.
• Project estimating, scheduling, design of heating and cooling systems, heat-load calculations, and equipment sizing studies.
• Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, electrical, structural, civil, IT, and security disciplines.
• Prepare diagrams, sketches, construction drawings, cost estimates, bid documents and construction administration.
• Meet with internal customers, develop continuous improvement projects, and coordinate with internal/external resources.
• Travel within eastern Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire, Rhode Island, with occasional projects outside New England or internationally.

What You Will Do:

• Responsible for completing engineering projects including mechanical building systems troubleshooting, support of building control systems, office renovations, laboratory fit-ups and manufacturing equipment installations.
• Support projects from design, through the bid cycle, construction project management followed by project closeout.
• Project estimating, project scheduling, design of heating and cooling systems, calculation of heat loads, and equipment sizing studies.
• Coordinate mechanical designs with other building design disciplines such as architectural, electrical, structural, civil, IT, and security.
• Preparation of diagrams, sketches, construction drawings, cost estimates, bid documents and construction administration.
• Meeting with internal customers, developing continuous improvement projects, coordination studies and project management.
• Interface and coordinate projects with internal and external resources such as information technology, safety, security, internal construction trade workers, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Travel: The position will require travel within eastern Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire and Rhode Island with occasional opportunities to consult on projects outside of New England and potentially internationally.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Minimum of 8+ years of experience in building mechanical engineering and a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering or related discipline or equivalent combination of related work experience and schooling in lieu of degree.
• 8+ years experience in building mechanical systems such as; boilers, refrigeration, cooling skids, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, fan coil units, variable air volume systems, compressed air systems, nitrogen and liquid nitrogen systems.
• Experience with construction project management including customer scoping meetings, budget monitoring, establishing and updating schedules, contractor coordination, commissioning, and close-out.
• Experience writing clear technical engineering specifications, reports and operating procedures

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Working knowledge of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE), Sheet Metal and Air conditioning Contractors National Association (SMCNA) and State Building Codes.
• Solid computer skills including proficiency with AutoCad, REVIT, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Project Scheduler.
• Familiarity with building electrical systems and general understanding of building construction and civil works.
• Experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS) and control systems such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric.
